People here need to understand something: This remaster is a way of testing the waters. If the game sells well, and we all know that it will, based on nostalgia alone, a Crash sequel/reboot WILL happen.
Just be grateful that Crash is back. The original games were awesome, and deserve to be remade.
@allouttabublgum: What's wrong with a remaster? If it's anything like the Ratchet & Clank remaster, it'll be amazing! And on top of that, if the remaster sells well, and we all know that it will, we'll certainly be getting a sequel or reboot.
I for one glad to see Crash is getting a remaster treatment but I would've prefer Spyro in it's place. I just hope Crash remaster becomes a hit and if it does, maybe just maybe there's hope for other platform games like Spyro, Jax & Dexter, ect. to get the remaster's treatment.
@domiddian: Despite what you're probably thinking, a game doesn't need to be a soulless FPS clone in order to be considered good in this day and age. Crash is beloved by many fans around the world, and It'll sell well off of nostalgia alone, and if the remake is anything like what Ratchet & Clank got, it'll get good reviews.
@firegecko76: "a game doesn't need to be a soulless FPS clone in order to be considered good in this day and age."
I'm well aware of that, but thanks for stating the obvious.
All I'm saying is that running into the screen and jumping in a linear fashion was a pretty new thing back in the 90s, but I don't think that will translate well today.
I loved the remastered Ratchet & Clank, but I don't think you can compare the two. It's nowhere near as linear for a start. There are other attributes, such as upgrading your weapons etc. which make the game deeper. I don't recall anything like this in the Crash series.
It might be good, I just can't see critics reviewing it all the well, sorry.
@domiddian: I'm sorry, but that's a very narrow-minded way of looking at it. When critics review a game, part of that is the expectations surrounding the game leading up to it. You're acting like the Crash PS1 games are games that we've never played before, and we're expecting them to change the course of gaming history as we know it, and that's simply not the case. When releasing a remaster, we know what to expect, because they are just a re-imagining of older games that we have already played a whole lot. Nobody is expecting the remasters of three games that are 20 years old to be Skyrim or GTA or anything like that. All they are doing is taking some old games, that a lot of people loved and a lot of people still play a lot today, and re-imagining them. That's why the R&C Remake was so popular. The positive reviews it got did not have anything to do with the gameplay, because we knew what to expect in terms of that. It got good reviews because it took an old game that a lot of people enjoyed, and did an excellent job re-imagining it. And that's exactly what the Crash remasters are doing. The Crash remasters won't get 9s or 10s or anything, but they're not trying to do that. R&C got scored in the 8 range, and that's probably around where the Crash remasters will score. Because as I said, we know what to expect from the remasters, a lot of people (myself included) loved the old games and still play them today, And you can bet that Sony will see to it that as much work is put into these Crash remasters as was put into the R&C remaster.
So I guess they knew they were disappointing us with the "no new Crash game" thing...was really hoping they'd bring back Crash in his own brand new game but ah well, I'll take whatever victories I can.
Also side note: JESUS TAP-DANCING CHRIST CRASH LOOKS UGLY AS SIN IN SKYLANDERS!
1. If this remaster sells well, and it certainly will, we will get a brand new Crash game.
2. No, he doesn't. The Skylanders design resembles his original design by Charles Zembillas. It also slightly resembles the Crash costume from the old commercials. It looks fine. Certainly not as bad as Spyro.
@firegecko76: Yeah, key word "if" and I'm not a very hopeful guy.
And yeah I get that it's like the original designs, that's why it's jarring to see him like that after remembering how he looked back on the original PS and his newer game designs, I see the intent but something about it rubs me the wrong way. And besides, it's subjective anyway, maybe you find it okay but for me seeing the screencap of Crash in that vid was startling, I'll get over it sure but still...
And yeah, Spyro looks butt ugly to me too in Skylanders, and that too I got over but they're both in the same boat for me...
@leeko_link: I don't know. Remastered PS1 games pretty much still look like PS1 games. There's only so much you can do with higher resolutions and wide screen support. : \
@BFKZ: No, he said it's "...for the Playstation 4." [Applause] "Crash Bandicoot will also appear first, though, on Playstation 4 this October in Skylanders Imaginators."
