Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Removed From PlayStation Store, Refunds Will Be Issued

You can no longer buy CD Projekt Red's game digitally on PlayStation.

CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 released on consoles in a less than optimal state--and now, PlayStation has taken action. The company has removed the game from the PlayStation Store, and promised to issue refunds to customers. If you purchased the digital version of the game, getting your money back should be a whole lot easier now.

Cyberpunk 2077 no longer appears when you search for it on the PlayStation Store, and Sony has shared a link for players to claim a refund for the digital version of the release. This applies to both the PS4 and PS5 stores.

As players began to discover Cyberpunk 2077's shoddy release state on consoles, developer CD Projekt Red suggested that Sony and Microsoft would be able to issue refunds; however, it eventually transpired that consultation with these companies had not happened, and the company soon stopped suggesting contacting PlayStation for a refund. It has been reportedly easier for Xbox players to get refunds with the standard request system, hence the game not being completely removed on that platform. However, Microsoft is offering blanket refunds to those who purchased the Xbox version digitally. It's still available for purchase, but should you encounter issues, you shouldn't be given the runaround to get your money back.

This is an uncommon action on Sony's part--games have been removed from the store before, and refunds issued, but it's rare to see it happen with a game of this size. Equally, some games that are technically flawed continue to be available on the PlayStation Store, indicating that this is an extreme case.

As of writing, the game is still available on the Xbox family of consoles, including the Xbox One. However, if you purchased the game at Best Buy, you can receive a refund. This applies to several versions, including the digital Xbox cards as well as the collector's editions. Should a different retailer not offer a refund, CD Projekt Red said it will pay out of its own pocket to refund those who want it. For both Best Buy and CD Projekt Red's own refunds, you have until December 21. That's only a few days, so you will have to decide whether or not it's worth getting your money back quickly. Should you be planning to wait anyway, you'll likely be able to get the game at a discount down the line.

I think it's important to remember that the fault of rushing it out was a whole combination of problems, probably decided by only a few people. There will be a lot of people within CDPR working tirelessly for their fans, having been missing their families and probably more so to come... I myself remember the care to detail and for their work from this company when I first opened the Witcher 3. That hasn't changed from playing the latest game. This will be an unbelievable game in a few months time, just give them a bit of a break on this one, they've surely earned it.

@Dmunky187: They’ve earned it based on one game?

@blondie_82: There's also Witcher 1 and 2. And the GOG marketplace. CDPR has a lot of goodwill behind it

Considering the potential for a fourth Witcher game will depend on people liking Cyberpunk 2077 at some point, at least on PC, they're probably going to pull a Hello Games and fix the hell out of this game.

It's painfully obvious a lot of you haven't even played the game. People trashing it now will be gargling CDPR's sack in a few months.

@scott_willy: Please. Once it's running well everyone will get the chance to see how awful this "open world" really is.

@scott_willy: You're cute when you're passive aggressive but I have all consoles and PC little boy. And if you think that you're playing an amazing open world game then I guess you have zero credibility along with your mental issues.

Works just fine on XBox One X so far. After hearing all the problems, I was expecting at least a bunch of hitching, but 5 hours in and I've seen one car with a low poly count while the model loaded in, I've seen like 2 hiccups (oddly enough just while walking around and talking to Jackie), and that's it.

People wanna gripe, but it plays better than Skyrim or Fallout (MUCH better and smooth, LOCKED framerate so far), the graphics are better than either of those by a HUGE margin, and while I don't see a ton of cars around, there are a lot of people on-screen at once doing their thing.

My son just started it on his regular XBone, looking forward to seeing the differences. Definitely sorry for the PS4 folks, seems like they took it right in the nuts, but Digital Foundry's tests indicated it played best on PS4 Pro out of the last gen systems, so anyone that shelled out for either a Pro or an XBoneX should be okay.

Crazy that it runs so bad they canned it, though.

Did anyone get some sort of email confirmation when you clicked the refund thingy? Hoping it went through because I got none, but it did say "we received your request" or whatever after I clicked the button, I just figured you'd get like a email confirmation.

The game works fine on PC. At least my PC, but in the end, a bad console launch hurts the likelihood of additional content and more importantly, a sequel. And as a primary PC player believe me I know what it feels like to have a bad port while every other platform user is enjoying the game. (Batman Arkham Knight) anyone?. It's sad really, CD Projekt Red was one of the last studios that knew what it was like to be more than just a profit center.

Yeah. No one likes when a port blows. Arkham Knight was inexcusable, because it's a damn good game (even though I did get a bit worn out on the crapsack world after a while). By all rights and accounts, it's the same issue with Cyberpunk here. HOPEFULLY the game continues to be worked on and becomes a game that's cherished like No Man's Sky nowadays.

I used my refund to buy the Stadia version. It isn't without some glitches but runs super smooth otherwise. Nothing game breaking like the PS4.

I'm not even mad about the bugs. I'm used to buggy games and can look past them if the game underneath is good, ambitious and something different/fresh - which is absolutely not the case here. The game underneath the bugs is so incredibly mediocre and so far from what was marketed, that it doesn't just border on false marketing, it definitely is false marketing.

This has to be the most embarrassing launch in history when you combine budget, the size of the studio who developed it, hype and marketing, and gamer expectation.

Delisting a AAA game...now I’ve seen everything.

I'm 30 hours in and I've encountered more bugs than I've ever seen in a game. I've had several game breaking bugs and the game has crashed at least 6 times. Playing on a PS4 Pro. The game is fun, but it's incredibly broken. This was supposed to be the biggest game of the year. Now it's the biggest dud.

@justthetip: mine crashed once, but the bugs are annoying. I had to reset my save because I was moving like in treacle but not overencumbered. Once reset, it was fine but I keep having to go back into options to reverse my Y-axis look. Oh I've seen people floating after you've shot them, etc. Shame as I was really looking forward to this one. I feel bad for the devs though, after all their hard work & dev time - in the end it just hasn't worked out for them. ☹

@miraggio67: I don't feel one bit bad for the developers. They had the ability to remove the vast amount of these bugs and instead, they deliberately released a broken game. They even admitted that all of the videos they've shown of the game were from the PC build, because they knew the console versions were broken. There is absolutely no excuse for that. It's the very definition of false advertising. They knowingly sold a highly defective product.

I would've been able to forgive the bugs if they were just things that the developers hadn't encountered, but the fact that they knew about all of this and hid it is total bullshit. They brought this on themselves.

@justthetip: well the false advertising is rather a stupid move, yes, because at the end of the day, this is what happens. I think it's the old man in me trying to see past it but you're absolutely right, there is no excuse for this. I remember something similar to this with ps4 killzone 2 running on pc hardware in a trailer. Ah well. ☹

@justthetip: Have you played Fallout 76? Not defending Cyberpunk here but Fallout 76 was hella bad. If you have, which one do you consider to be worse? I would genuinely like to know since I haven't played any of the base console versions.

@muddrox: No. I haven't played Fallout 76. I love Fallout, but I have zero interest in a multiplayer version. I know that game is supposed to be super buggy, too. Cyberpunk develops more and more bugs as you play on. Since my original post, it has crashed two more times. Sometimes you have to reload saves to finish missions. This game is just a mess.

Update: Just crashed on me again. 12:31pm December 20th. Haha. So insanely broken.
