Cyberpunk 2077 News Could Come At E3 This Year

A small glimmer of hope that we might learn more about Cyberpunk 2077 this year.

Following rumours from last week, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has now all but confirmed that it will be attending E3 2018 in June. The Polish developer's director of PR and global communication confirmed the news to GameSpot in a coy statement.

"Yes, we're on the list - i.e. https://www.e3expo.com/participating-companies. But there is no additional comment on that from us," the representative said.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Cyberpunk 2077 News Could Come At E3 This Year

Last week it was discovered that the list of "Participating Companies" for E3 2018 included CD Projekt Red. This led some to believe that the studio might have plans to show off or discuss Cyberpunk 2077 in some manner at the big-time gaming show in Los Angeles. Given that it has been years since we've heard anything official about the game, people got understandably excited about this development.

However, CD Projekt Red's name being on the list of "Participating Companies" does not necessarily mean the studio will have any news to share on Cyberpunk 2077 or any of its other games. It could be that CD Projekt Red is attending E3 for the purposes of meeting with business partners or showing things behind closed doors, outside of the public eye.

The studio has yet to confirm any specifics plans for the show, but those details may come into focus in the weeks and months ahead. E3 2018 runs June 12-14, though briefings from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are expected to take place earlier that week.

In January, the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account came alive for the first time in four years, leading some to believe that news about the much-anticipated game might be coming soon. The game was initially announced in 2012, with a teaser trailer debuting the next year. It's been a long wait for any news or update on the game's development.

In addition to Cyberpunk 2077 and the continued support of Gwent, CD Projekt Red plans to release another AAA RPG in the 2017-2021 window. CD Projekt Red was tight-lipped about Cyberpunk 2077, the studio has said absolutely nothing about this other game.

Although platforms for Cyberpunk 2077 have not yet been announced, the studio has said it will "probably" come to Xbox One, PS4, and PC. While you wait for news about Cyberpunk 2077, you can check out GameSpot's new feature, "Why Cyberpunk 2077 Is So Important To The Genre And Modern Society."

I'm in for whatever CD Projekt Red have to offer. With Witcher 3 alone, they created good faith at least in this customer with reasonable pricing, even more reasonable DLC and expansions, and even free DLC. Any other publisher would've had you paying for all of that through the nose. Hell, the expansions alone - certainly Blood & Wine - had enough content to be its own game. And again, any other publisher would've sold it as such. And sold the new armours separately. Plus, they were consistent and often with patches to the point that, while it still has the odd bug as one expects from such a large game, the game runs incredibly well.

Cyberpunk isn't an instant buy or pre-order, but after building up this much good will after every other publisher only filled me with regret, I'm at least strongly considering it.

Gwent. They have Gwent to show, single player campaign and multiplayer ver. 1.0 to be precise. What Cyberpunk? It's in the middle of development.

@Vojtass: They do have Gwent but i fully expect single player campaign to be released before E3, it is time for Cyberpunk to be shown, I would be absolutely shocked if its not there. Btw, last year the were absent despite Gwent open beta starting in may and single player campaign coming in 2017 (at the time) they elected not to go to e3.

@Tarathelion: Be ready for shock then. They will show something, if there's something to show.

@Vojtass: I do believe the development is very advanced based on number of people working on a game for a long time now,, you don't have 300 hundred people working on a game if you are in pre-production, therefore i think the game is not as as far off as some people think (unless something unexpected happens and the game will be delayed) If they won't be at at E3 with Cp that means the earliest possible release would be fall 2019 with a chance going into 2020 if delay happens, thats a bloody long time to develop a game

@Tarathelion: Game isn't in pre-production, but it's far from finishing. Info comes from over 40 CDPR devs who were asked by youtuber, MadQueen (she has interesting channel, check it out). True development of Cyberpunk started after TW3 premiere. On full scale after Blood and Wine. Game will be enormous (at least that's the plan), so amount of work is much greater than TW3. Also there are things that you can't really speed up. The biggest problem is probably proper management of this developing army. Being producer/manager is tough job. CDPR has a big problem with that. Check MadQueen video, her information is reliable and, what's more important, CDPR hasn't denied it.

@ECH71: If you're a glass half full guy. If you're not, this is like in high school when the cute girl smiles at you maybe, and you spend the rest of the day stressed out wondering was that, like, AT you or was she just happy? Is it good news? IS IT?

(That...uh...never happened to me, cuz she was always smiling AT me. We'll go with that. Ok? Going with that.)

@playstationzone: What makes you think the game will be exclusive? Especially after the multiplatform success of Witcher 3.

@Gamer_4_Fun: While I highly, HIGHLY doubt it will be exclusive to anything, I do point out that Witcher 2 came to Xbox and not Playstation.

@Gamer_4_Fun: I think that after great game of Witcher 3 might do deal with MS to put cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox for one year exclusive deal to get more money ? .

@playstationzone: In case of any exclusivity deal CDPR's reputation would be burned to the ground.

@Vojtass: The Witcher is a PC exclusive, The Witcher 2 was a PC exclusive until it was eventually ported to Xbox 360. The Witcher 3 is their first full Multi-platform game.

Cyberpunk 2077's original announcement was a PC exclusive but don't worry like all developers, CDPR like money and their multi-platform game made tons from all three platforms.

@GarGx1: I already know that. They went full multiplatform with TW3 and there's no other way for them now. Every other option will mean massive reputation loss. Any exclusivity is highly unlikely.

I feel like if they weren't giving out some sort of meaty update they would say so ahead of time to avoid disappointment. "We are not giving any update at E3" is better than "Yes we'll be there, that's all we're going to say" and proceeding to give us all the middle finger by not talking about it.

@m7stech: Technically the game is still in beta. So it may be even more anti-climactic and just be Gwent itself!

@Brettsky128: They could do both. Show a trailer and release date for Gwent, and then say, "Oh and we have one more thing to show you..." I'm not expecting it, but that'd be pretty darned cool.

Don't get your hopes up. We might see nothing more than a Gwent trailer.

@jamesbr27: I read some articles where employees (current or former) have said some nasty things about them and the practises within the company. Namely, unpaid overtime every single day for years. I think at their company it's a little less bad as elsewhere though. But that's becoming an issue everywhere. Especially if you're directly employed by a company and not a contractor.

@sebb: I've worked unpaid overtime before. You know how we solved it? We worked harder to get our jobs done during work hours instead of slacking off.

@genji_shimada: What I mean is that employers are becoming unreasonable in the volume of work they expect employees to do. At my workplace I had to program macros and scripts to automate most of the work I'm doing. This was not a requirement of the job but an initiative to address increasing work volume. Thanks to my computer programming hobby I've had for the past 20 years. Our Accounts team, which is the team I'm in, really benefited. There was no way that the volume of work could be done by such a small team of four (and I work for a global company). The company keeps refusing to employ more people and prefers to save up to make acquisitions so they can compete with competitors that are much larger than they are. Just to give you an idea, when I started I was responsible for Accounts for 3 markets/countries, and each include hundreds of customer accounts. Doing the daily tasks for those countries was already not achievable in the week. Over the course of 6 months I went from being responsible for 3 markets to 9. So the work effectively trippled. Then the company decided to have managers do an assessment of the time it took to complete each process involved in daily tasks and their complexity, for all teams in all departments. After a few months of gathering this data they concluded that the work volume was too high and the expectations of the company was unreasonable. In these game development companies, employees are very passionate about their work. After all they work in the industry because they love games. The passion can be abused of. When an employer sees a person who will give a lot of their effort and free time because they like their work, they will abuse of that, more often than not in my work experience. Employers have a responsibility to respect the working hours of their employees just as employees have a responsibility to do their work well and diligently. It works both ways. There are employees who have worked every weekend for the past two years and sacrificed time with their kids. People work to live. They should not be living to work. There is a time to work, a time to relax.
