Cyberpunk 2077 PC Specs Increased Ahead Of Phantom Liberty, Now Requires SSD

CD Projekt Red has updated the system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 to be more up to date, but low-end machines still might work.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a reputation as a demanding game on PC, and developer CD Projekt Red has revised the game's system requirements to reflect that ahead of its coming expansion, Phantom Liberty. The updated specs tie specific GPUs and processors to resolution and target frame rates, but as the blog announcing the change clarifies, that doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get that level of performance.

The biggest change here is that an SSD is now required to meet the game's minimum specs. Many PC gamers have at least one these days, but if you don't, it's definitely worth the upgrade. The upcoming Starfield will also require an SSD to run on PC. It's also worth noting here that these revised requirements don't necessarily mean that low-end machines won't be able to run the game, but CD Projekt Red says that they're officially "discontinuing active support" for those sort of specs, so keep that in mind.

Shouldn't they have two versions of this game? One that runs on older hardware, as they promised when the game was released, and one for next gen? Otherwise they could be cutting off those who bought this game near release.

I still don't get why they opted for low/high specs at 1080p and skipped 1440p and then went straight to 4k. A lot of gamers play at 1440p and they now have to guess where there system sits in this range of requirements. Keep in mind 1080p is also more CPU intensive, meaning that the recommended non ray tracing (high) CPU requirements are not indicative of what you will need to hit 60fps on 1440p; at 1440p your GPU will do more of the heavy lifting. I'm still rocking a 10 gen 10850k and I should be fine at high settings 60+fps.

@hampton2003: Yeah a lot of developers do that today for some reason for their games. As resolution goes up they increase the CPU requirement along with the GPU. When in practice, the CPU utilization should drop or at least stay the same at minimum. If I followed their recommendations, I’d have to upgrade a high end CPU every year hahahaha

I tried playing this game twice, not so much bugs but it got a bit boring. Like Fallout 4 or parts of GTA. I have a 1 tb OS drive 4th gen, a 1tb game 4th gen drive, and a traditional 2tb WD black HDD. I moved this game around, a few times, and never noticed a difference in performance.

It runs well enough now with that last patch, but who knows if the new content is good enough, I might actually finish the game.

Feels like there’s been a concerted effort to push gamers into buying a more modern gpu. I can run cyberpunk on 1440p high at 60 fps on my 9600 and 2070 super. Not noticing great leaps in fidelity to go along with all these sky high requirements.

@faithxvoid: The cost vs return on hardware power alone for 4k just isn't worth it. I'm just fine at 1440p with my 11600k and 6950xt to keep high framerates while the game looks incredible on my 27" 144hz unless the game is a bag of un-optimized ass.
