Cyberpunk 2077's First Free DLC Is Purely Cosmetic, More Add-Ons Coming Later

Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed that the first batch of free Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is "small," with more add-ons like it coming in the future.

Developer CD Projekt Red has pulled back the curtain on Cyberpunk 2077's first batch of free DLC, but they're not as substantial as you might expect.

During a Twitch livestream, several CDPR employees broke down what's new inside the third-person shooter's latest update. Alongside discussing the changes in Patch 1.3, the studio showcased the four new pieces of content: two jackets, one car, and an alternative outfit for Johnny Silverhand.

All four pieces of DLC can be accessed in the game's Main Menu under the Additional Content tab. The two jackets, both of Rare/Iconic qualities, are available in V's apartment after completing The Ride mission. Meanwhile, the Archer Quartz "Bandit" car can be purchased after finishing Ghost Town. You can check out screenshots of all four pieces of DLC below.

CDPR senior level designer Miles Toast clarified that these add-ons are small for a reason. Patch 1.3 is Cyberpunk 2077's biggest update to date, according to Toast, so the DLCs function as a kind of sweetener for the tea. As such, bigger, more substantive expansions for the game are coming later.

"This patch is our biggest one to date," Toast said during the livestream. "We've put a lot of effort into this one, so consider the DLCs that we have now as sort of goodies, sort of cherries on top. The reality of course, and we've talked about this in the past, is that we differentiate a bit between different kinds of extra content, between DLCs, additional items of which we will have plenty coming down the road, and of course the giant expansion passes which we will have something to say about later."

This mirrors the studio's approach to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which saw 16 pieces of free DLC before receiving its two massive expansions in 2015 and 2016. CDPR called this method out in September 2020, with president Adam Kiciński saying Cyberpunk 2077 DLC would follow a similar trajectory.

Senior quest designer Patrick Mills said during the livestream that some DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will be bigger than others and all would be free, but they wouldn't match the scope of the larger add-ons the studio has planned. CDPR didn't specify what these expansions are; however, Mills said that what the team is working on is "cool" and will cost players some money.

An exact release date for Patch 1.3 and these free add-ons was not revealed. CDPR said that fans can expect it hit Cyberpunk 2077 sometime in the future.

The release of their game is as big of botch as the Afghanistan debacle. They have nothing to show after 9 months.

@Gaming-Planet:

Yes because the fate of an entire nation hanging in the balance as millions await the outcome of a bloody coup is exactly the same situation a few gamers find themselves in because they can't play a particular game in their mothers basement while drinking a 12 case of Monster and scratching their nuts with chubby, cheeto stained fingers.

Is the game worth playing yet? Because it's been about 9 months. And this wait is getting painful.

@illegal_peanut: It has a good 30 hours to it, if you play it on high end hardware or streaming-service.

@kiff_82: what does what you play it on have to do with how much time there is in game? And btw its only 30 hours if you are afk for 10+ and play slow as you can and watch every cutscene.

@gaeandilth: um. no. It took me 85 hours to finish and I didn't do all the random busy work or all the major side quest "branches"

@xantufrog: did you hack all the cameras and stealth around or snipe camps from afar? Or did you use the slide and wipe out 90 percent of the camp in a single slide slo mo in about 10 seconds. Have not had a single player game that took 80 hours to finish in over a decade.

@gaeandilth: have you played it? It's an RPG - not trying to be dismissive, but it's a bit hard to describe all of my activities that took 80 hours. I talked to people, drove cars, hacked stuff, stole stuff, sold stuff, bought stuff - sometimes I stealthed around and stabbed, sometimes I went rambo on people; whatever the situation dictates. I got laid, drove a tank...

It's just a big game. Like almost all RPGs - could probably kill TW3 or many other recent RPGs in 15-20 hours too if you ignore actually "role playing" the game and just click "yeah yeah" as fast as you can through the main quest dialogs and go straight to the main quest compass markers. But I'd go so far as to say that's borderline not playing an RPG.

@xantufrog: have you ever played a rpg? This is a parkour GTA/watchdog rip off. It is no RPG.

And there is a difference then playing a RPG and "role playing" one is a great genre of gaming the other a nerdy basement dweller virgin activity. You do not need to enjoy their generic stories to play a RPG. If I want story I will read a book and the cheapest book on the shelf is guaranteed to be a better story then any video game ever made.

And I did not do just the main story i did everything on the map in 15 hours hell I cleared it a 2nd time on a female character and my time played is 26 hours. And unlike other games of its kind after you clear the map nothing respawns and there is absolutely nothing to do.

@gaeandilth: sounds like a lot of bullshit. Beat it in a day. Yeah right. And yes, I've been gaming since the 80s and am a hardcore RPG fan - my favorite RPG of all time in Planescape Torment. I didn't say this was a "great rpg" but I have a feeling we aren't going to have a civil conversation if you are going to start calling people basement dwelling virgins, and if you played it like GTA and skipped through all the dialog then you f*cked up and played the game wrong - doesn't sound like something an RPG fan would do at all.

@xantufrog: Simple facts. There is not a single player game made in the past decade that takes 80 hours to clear.

Another fact do not care what gamespot calls it Cyberpunk is no rpg.

Cyberpunk is not big at all and the difficulty along with dumb enemy AI it makes it even smaller. Very few missions not just a fast travel and a quick camp gank away. Sure there some you have to drive way out in the desert and search a junkyard for some crap item for some crap reward that take a bit of time but only a few.

And the last fact is I never criticized how you played just mentioned how you might of to take that long. Because the simple fact is there is no right way to play any game you play it yours and ill play mine but do not call me a liar then act like I am the one being aggressive about the subject when in fact it is you.

And the comment about basement dwelling virgins was about role players not RPG players. Might be offensive but as far as stereotypes go that one is well deserved if you ever met people that played MMOs on role playing servers or a larper.

@gaeandilth: Maybe if you are just trying to complete the main story quests as fast as possible. If you do all the side quests, many of which are just as if not better than the main story beats, and take the time to do the side objectives like the crime in progress stuff, you can get 100-200 hours out of it easy.

@xZedZdeDx: I did the entire game and cleared every side mission in a single sitting and that was on release day with about 10 crashes and was about 15 hours. And after you do everything nothing respawns so there is 0 to do after. Admittedly i do not watch cutscenes if I can not skip them i go to the bathroom or refill my drink during them. And i say everything but there are 3 quests I never finished because they were bugged.

As a comparison it took me over a week to clear everything in GTA San Adreas.

Is it just me or does it not read like they are trying to differentiate between the 'free dlc drops' that have been promised repeatedly and now some "larger expansions" which will cost money? Has this been mentioned previously?

I bought the game day one and it is still sitting in it’s case, waiting for the game to be finished before I play. I’m sure it will eventually be good, but I have too many other games to play to worry about CP2077.

@lahrs: If you have it on PC, it's perfectly playable. I played it in April and rarely had any bugs. I'm playing Prey (2017) right now and Cyberpunk was a much better game even unfinished.

@Wraith3: That's not true at all I played on PC and got a couple of missions bugged, specially the one where Jackie parks his bike to start the mission, well he parked and then a truck bumped him until the end of the road! So I couldn't start the dialogue lmao!

I don't want to play a buggy mess, so my PC Digital copy will be unopened until they fix their sh** right. I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla and it's incredible Ubisoft did a better job than CDPR how tides turn.

@skypunk: I love when people tell me what really happened to me. Just because you experienced bugs does not mean every person who played it would experience the exact same things or even any at all. There's all kinds of factors that contribute to bugs and it could be anything from your hardware to doing certain things in the game that triggered the bug.

@Wraith3 It doesn't matter! The game was broken from the start, and yeah want to blame my rig or my software? Guess what! I was playing it on stream service trough Nvidia lmao! So yeah even server dedicated exclusively for Gaming with a RTX 2080 is the culprit behind all that shitty mess from CDPR of course fanboiii.

CDPR is a lying Developer, sad but true.

@skypunk: Lol another person telling me what I experienced. Must be a psychic network! Just because you had problems doesn't mean EVERYONE experiences them. Me saying I didn't experience any problems doesn't take any blame away from the mess the game was, just that I did not have hardly any problems. People think that ANY praise is people saying the game is fine, which is what I would have said if that was what I meant.

@Wraith3: “ I love when people tell me what really happened to me”.

Probably the funniest and most true thing I’ve read in a while lol. Totally agree with your reasoning too. Software is often the culprit too. All it takes is one buggy program or service in the background to cause all sorts of weird stuff

@Wraith3: It was perfectly playable on PS5 as well and I'd even safely assume XBsX. PS4 Pro was a tad iffy, but still not terrible, again I'd assume the same for XB1X .

@mogan: They are two drastically different games, so I wouldn’t say it’s a fair comparison. But I’m with you, Prey was amazing. Been waiting for a 3080 before I try Cyberpunk (I know, I’ll probably reach Enlightenment before then lol).

@bryanweary: playing on the one X which is more than capable to run the game even at 1440p with no frame drops, plus its advertised on the cover that is 4k. Might be checker board rendering but still its not acceptable.
