As part of CD Projekt Red's Investor Day event today, the Polish company shared new sales figures for Cyberpunk 2077 and its recently released Phantom Liberty expansion.

The expansion sold 3 million copies in its first week. The majority of sales (35.9%) came from North America, followed by Europe (35.1%), Asia (23.1%), Australia (2.8%), South America (2.7%), and Africa (0.4%). In terms of breakdown by platform, PC dominated, making up a whopping 68% of sales for Phantom Liberty. PS5 (20%), Xbox Series X|S (13%), and GOG (10%) rounded out the other platforms (this is not in addition to the 68% of PC).

CD Projekt Red also announced that 360 people from CD Projekt Red itself worked on the Phantom Liberty expansion. In total, 3,600 people were "engaged" in the project, though the company did not say if this is the total number of people working on the game at once or if it was over the course of the expansion's development over the years.

Additionally, it was confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold more than 25 million copies. Whether or not this figure includes returns that people got following the game's problematic launch in 2020 is unknown. The game sold 13.7 million copies--the majority of lifetime sales--in its first three weeks back in 2020.

Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077's one and only expansion. It brings back Keanu Reeves' Johnny Silverhand and introduces a character named Solomon Reed, who is played by Idris Elba. The expansion did not come to PS4 and Xbox One. For more, check out GameSpot's 10/10 review of Phantom Liberty.

CD Projekt Red is now developing a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and is making a live-action project with Anonymous Content.

Its typical. All the people who slammed it at launch have turned tail and gone crawling back. You and those absolute scam artists deserve each other.

@jimg81: Alternatively, CDPR have put a lot of effort into fixing/improving Cyberpunk since it's rough launch and it is now a pretty good game that fewer people have a reason to "slam".

@santinegrete: I played it at launch, throughout the patches and have completed two endings of the DLC. I'd say shooting feels the same. I don't see any difference. I am playing with a controller on PC.

@itsnota2mer: One of the best DLCs and game in general, I've played in my 29 years as a gamer so far. I got dreams about it. The character work is really well done.

Just goes to show you that having a distinct style is better than generic photorealism.

@YukoAsho: Yes. Photorealistic games age poorly as tech advances. But stylized games hold up way better.

@sebb: Even when the games come out, all the photorealistic games are a bit... Samey. Say what you will about Cyberpunk 2077, it's got a very distinct look.

Seems reports of the death of CDPR were a tad premature.

@olddadgamer: Their reputation prior to the release of the base game helped them survive the initial shitstorm, but their work to fix the game in the intervening time is what helped them achieve this milestone. It's wonderful to see.

@YukoAsho: It is nice to see. I'm all for criticizing a studio, a game, a console, whatever where criticism is due. I'm no fanboy of anything. That said, I don't understand the subset of gamers that actively root for studios, companies, etc. to completely fail and go out of business. Call out the missteps these companies make, call out the bad trends in the industry, criticize, but don't cheer the demise of anything, be happy when they fix stuff and get back on track.

Initial shitstorm aside, this studio, I believe, has a lot more good games in it. I'm glad they survived, even thrived, and we'll get to see more of what they can do.
