What might the next Souls game be? According to a recently discovered trademark filing, it could be "Slashy Souls." Bandai Namco has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent & Trademark Office for something called Slashy Souls. The listing was first spotted by Gematsu.

The "Goods and Services" description for Slashy Souls lists it as a video game, but doesn't say more.

As Gematsu points out, Slashy Souls kind of sounds like a mobile version of the Souls franchise. But of course, that's not confirmed. And trademark applications often amount to nothing at all.

Bandai Namco has also trademarked a video game called "Thousand Storm." Both the Slashy Souls and Thousand Storm trademarks were filed with the USPTO on August 31. Meanwhile, Bandai Namco has also filed paperwork in Europe for something called "Burning Blood."

We've followed up with Bandai Namco to see if the company has anything to share here. We'll update this post with anything we might hear back.

Souls mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of From Software, said in an interview last month that he's hoping to launch "several new projects" at the studio, one of which could be a sci-fi game.

"As president of From Software, I am planning to launch several new projects," he said. "I can't quite specify exactly what they are. Those could be something sci-fi, but you'll have to stay tuned for more about that in the future."

The next Souls game is Dark Souls III, which launches in early 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
