At its Las Vegas press event this week, Capcom revealed the addition of a brand-new mode to its upcoming PSP fighter, Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower. The game, which was released in Japan at the PSP's launch, is a 2D fighter based on the Darkstalkers series that was first seen in arcades in the '90s and then made a few appearances on the Saturn and PlayStation consoles later in the decade. While the Japanese release of the game featured a meaty assortment of extras, which included assorted gameplay modes that ran the gamut from a traditional arcade mode to a rich-and-challenging tower mode, Capcom has opted to toss in an extra for the US market. Although the mode wasn't on display at the event, it will definitely lend some interesting depth to the game.

The new mode is actually the third match type that will be found nestled in the game's network mode. Besides offering versus and limit battle matches, as seen in the Japanese game, the US version of Darkstalkers Chronicle will also include league battle, which will let up to four players go at it in round robin mini-tournaments. Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower is currently slated to ship within the PSP launch window later this year, so be sure to look for more on the game in the coming months.
