Dead Island 2's Release Date Moved Forward A Week

After years and years of delays, the zombie game finally goes gold.

The release date for Dead Island 2 is changing up once again, but for the first time, it's not a delay. Instead, publisher Deep Silver has announced the action-RPG will launch one week earlier on April 21, 2023.

To reinforce this date, Deep Silver tweeted that Dead Island 2 has gone gold as well. Back in November, the zombie game set in Los Angeles was pushed back 12 weeks from February to April 28. So this rearrangement helps shorten that delay.

That said, it's been a tumultuous development cycle for the action-RPG. Dead Island 2 was originally unveiled at E3 2014 as part of the Sony press conference. But since then, the game has seen multiple delays and even switched studio hands a few times. Techland, who was behind the first game and the Dying Light series, isn't making this sequel.

Spec Ops: The Line's Yager Development was creating Dead Island 2 at one point. But then Little Big Planet 3 maker Sumo Digital took over the project. That team didn't last in the end, either. Dambuster Studios is now behind the zombie game, previously creating Homefront: The Revolution.
