Dead Space Creator's New Horror Game The Callisto Protocol Revealed

Glen Schofield's Striking Distance Studios has taken the wraps off its first game.

As promised, Dead Space co-creator and former Call of Duty executive Glen Schofield's new studio, Striking Distance, has announced its first game tonight at The Game Awards. The Callisto Protocol is a survival-horror game, and Schofield said the studio's goal is to make "the single scariest game on PC and consoles."

Schofield briefly appeared during the Game Awards to give a few more details about the game. It's set in the year 2320 on Callisto, the frozen moon of Jupiter, which houses a prison. Schofield said the title is a single-player, third-person, story-driven horror game. The Callisto Protocol is scheduled for release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

In addition to Schofield, another key developer at Striking Distance is Steve Papoutsis, an Electronic Arts veteran who worked with Schofield on Dead Space. From the trailer, which you can watch above, and the description of The Callisto Protocol, it sure sounds like Striking Distance is working on something of a spiritual successor to the horror franchise. The Dead Space series has been dormant since the release of Dead Space 3 in 2013, and EA shuttered its developer, Visceral Games, in 2017.

After leaving EA, Schofield founded the Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games with Michael Condrey. They were both promoted to higher-level positions within Activision before they both left the company to start new projects. Condrey is now working with 2K on a new multiplayer game.

Schofield is a damn king dude. All of Dead Spaces were fantastic, but no chapter nor game could come close to the atmosphere, the setting and even the perfectly mixed gameplay mechanics of it. Gotta say Callisto is the worst name i've ever heard but i'm so hyped up. Cyberpunk who?

This is fantastic news.

Dead Space 1 was by far the most intense horror game I have played. I absolutely loved it, and loved the suit progression. Replayed the game many times over the years.

I saw an interview of Glen Schofield where he speaks about the creation of Dead Space. And he was so passionate about it. Hopefully that passion can be in this game also.

I hope this turns out well

And with this you know the shet is about to go down. Getting that Aliens & Prometheus vibes with the atmosphere, alien drool & tingling tunes.

Still sad we didnt get to see how the story of Dead Space could evolve. For a survival horror game it had some pretty deep lore.

Thanks EA...

I was almost anticipating a Dead Space 4 logo to pop up or something. Looks good. Hopefully this title has the same kind of impact the original Dead Space had.
