Dead Space: Extraction, Bulletstorm demo fire up PSN
PlayStation Store Update: Prequel to original Dead Space hits download hub; sampler for first-person shooter/kicker also now out; PSP storefront adds Lord of Arcana.
Last week Sony welcomed Commander Shepard to the Sony universe with the release of Mass Effect 2 on the PlayStation 3. This week's focus remains in outer space, but with a frightening shift toward strategic dismemberment.
First out of the gate this week on the PlayStation Network is Visceral Games' Dead Space: Extraction ($15). A prequel to the original Dead Space, Extraction is bundled with copies of the Dead Space 2 limited edition and will make use of Sony's PlayStation Move motion-control technology. Additionally, the onetime Wii exclusive will be playable with standard PS3 controllers and includes Trophy Support.
Also now out on the PSN is a demo for People Can Fly's first-person shooter/kicker Bulletstorm. In the demo, players will vault into the gritty boots of hero Grayson Hunt and get a glimpse at the game's Echo mode, a score-based experience featuring the game's campaign environments.
Further, the demo will give players a feel for the game's skill shot system, whereby players are rewarded for killing with skill. Gamers will have access to 45 skill shots in the demo and can wield an arsenal of deadly weaponry, including the peace maker carbine, the flail gun, and the screamer, which turns foes into fireworks.
Switching to the PSP storefront, Sony added one new title this week. Square Enix's action game Lord of Arcana is now available to download. The title revolves around a powerful stone called Arcana, said to be "the source of all order in the world."
Only the most powerful can lay claim to the stone, so players will need to hunt scores of monsters--which the publisher says have been designed by "world-renowned artists"--if they want to discover its secrets.
Music-gamers seeking new tunes to rock out to can now download a five-pack of David Bowie songs for Rock Band 3. "Blue Jean," "Fame," "Modern Love," "Young Americans," and "Ziggy Stardust" are now available to download for $2 each. Gamers looking to buy them all can grab the complete pack for $8.50.
A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
