Deadpool 2: Ryan Reynolds Marks Cable Actor's Birthday With A Lovely Painting
Was the recent Deadpool trailer's reference to The Goonies not enough for you? Have another!
As is to be expected, given how different Deadpool is from the average superhero movie, the marketing campaign for Deadpool 2 has been quite quirky. That's continued today, with star Ryan Reynolds celebrating the birthday of co-star Josh Brolin.
Brolin is set to play Cable in the upcoming sequel to Deadpool. February 12 marks his 50th birthday, and in heartwarming fashion, Reynolds has commemorated the occasion with a picture he shared on social media. It shows Cable posing for Deadpool, who's meant to be painting a photo of the villain. Instead, he's painting Brolin's character from The Goonies, Brand.
Amazingly, this is not even the first reference to the 33-year-old The Goonies that we've seen from the promotion for the upcoming movie. A new Deadpool 2 trailer introducing Cable featured a moment where Deadpool is wearing a shirt much like the one worn by another character from The Goonies, Jeff Cohen's Chunk.

This follows a new Deadpool 2 poster released recently which contained an obvious reference to another '80s film, Flashdance. These are just some of the promotional materials being launched in the lead-up to the release of the new Deadpool, which is due out on May 18. In the meantime, we've got a full breakdown of the recent Deadpool 2 Cable trailer and an in-depth recap answering just who Cable is.
