Deadpool Movie Passes $600 Million Worldwide, Eyeing R-Rated Record

Fox's over-the-action superhero action movie Deadpool continues to climb the box office charts. After another strong weekend, the film has now cleared $600 million worldwide, according to Variety.

The site further reports that Deadpool has a "very good chance" of beating The Matrix Reloaded ($742 million) to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history at the worldwide box office.

Deadpool has already passed American Sniper ($547 million), but still sits behind The Passion of the Christ ($612 million) and the aforementioned Matrix film on the R-rated international box office charts, according to numbers from Box Office Mojo.

Star Ryan Reynolds stands to make $10 million in bonuses due to Deadpool's performance, a number that could balloon further still if the movie continues to do well.

He is already on-board for the sequel, and sources say his representatives at talent agency WME are looking to renegotiate for "significantly" more money than the first time around.

Given the huge success of Deadpool, it might have been assumed that producers would seek a higher budget to make a more spectacular sequel. This may not be the case, however.

"We don't want $150 million to go make the next movie; that's not Deadpool," writer Paul Wernick said earlier this month. "Deadpool doesn't lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that's just not Deadpool. So we're happy in that little small budget range that they have us in; we don't wanna blow this next one out."
