Deleted Star Wars 7 Footage Revealed in New Teaser for DVD and Blu-ray
"Is there another way out of here?"
After weeks of speculation, the deleted scenes that will feature on the home entertainment release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens were finally confirmed this week. Now a teaser for this bonus material is online, revealing previously unseen footage from the sci-fi blockbuster. Check it out below:
There will be seven deleted scenes in total. They include Finn having to make a difficult decision during the opening attack on Jakku, and Han, Finn, and Chewie discovering a squad of stormtroopers in the basement of Maz's castle. Other scenes will feature Kylo Renn, who leads his men to inspect the crashed Millennium Falcon on the surface of Starkiller base, an early scene of Leia learning about the Jakku massacre, and Poe Dameron engaging in additional X-Wing action.
The full list of the scenes are:
- Finn and the Villager
- Jakku Message
- X-Wings Prepare for Lightspeed
- Kylo Searches The Falcon
- Snow Speeder Chase
- Finn Will Be Fine
These will all be included on the Digital HD and Blu-ray Combo Pack. There is also a special bonus deleted sequence, titled "Tunnel Standoff", that can be found only on Digital HD, or by redeeming the digital copy included in the Blu-ray Combo Pack.
Speaking to EW this week, director JJ Abrams explained why these scenes were removed from the final movie. "There are so many things that end up getting cut because of the greater good," he said. "[It's] because of the rhythm of the sequence or the need to get on with it, a sense of redundancy.
"You don't know any of these things when you're making the movie, of course. It was sometimes after months of working on something that you realize finally--you just don't need it."
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be available to download digitally on April 1. It comes to Blu-ray and DVD on April 5.
