Demon's Souls Remake Revealed During PS5 Event, See The Stunning Screenshots

Sony gave us our first look at a ton of PlayStation 5 games during its hour-long PS5 reveal event, but one of the biggest surprises was saved for near the end: a remake of From Software's classic Demon's Souls. It looks almost unrecognizable because of the major graphical overhaul, but the spirit of the dark and gloomy role-playing game is still completely intact.

Originally released for PlayStation 3 back in 2009, Demon's Souls is the precursor to the Dark Souls series. Much like the titles that would follow, the game is renowned for its blend of methodical combat and unforgiving difficulty.

Not many details were announced about the Demon's Souls remake, but we did get a look at the updated graphics, and Sony confirmed it is being developed by Bluepoint Studios--which handled 2018's Shadow of the Colossus remake--and Japan Studio. According to the video description on YouTube, the Demon's Souls remake features a new "Fractured Mode." Players will also be able to choose between two graphics modes in the remake: "one focused on fidelity, and one focused on frame rate."

Demon's Souls was greeted with critical acclaim back when it first released. We gave the game a 9/10 in our original Demon's Souls review and said, "This is an uncompromising RPG of the highest order--and a brilliant, atmospheric, and visionary one. It is at once old-fashioned and innovative, a stubbornly difficult dungeon crawler loaded with wholly unique mechanics."

We got to see a ton of other PS5 games during the reveal event, including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Resident Evil Village. Only thing that saved it for me…I’ve been talking about Demon’s Souls for the past 10 years but always thought a remake/part 2 would remain a fantasy.

Its nice just having another game to look forward to.. especially of this caliber. That makes like 3 games total on my to-buy list. Only thing that can ruin it (and why I quit playing previous ‘Souls games) is lame ass cheaters.. Hope certain measures are placed to prevent it this time.

This game broke me. Honestly, after burning hours getting stomped in this one, I didn't even want to try the Dark Souls series.

That said, it looked great then, and it looks really good now.

I hope they get to add the one area they decided to scrap in the original. There was some cut content that would be great to slap onto this Remake.

@HiroArka: Well... I think it's safe to assume they will, considering second scene of the trailer is snowy lands (which corresponds to that area according to data miners), and no other Worlds have any snow in them.

This is the news I have been waiting for. I almost gave up on consoles this generation but ended up with a PS4. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get a PS5 due to the limited use the PS4 got.

This just changed my mind.

Man, I really like those screenshots. I know a lot of people loved the original, but its graphics looked really bad to me so I never played it. I remember really liking the box art though, and this remake is what I thought the original should have looked like in-game.. if that makes sense. I'm pretty hyped about this.

Crap. Hoping it would be Legend of Dragoon. Bluepoint has said that the mystery game they were working on, which ended up being Demon's Souls, would be less of a remake and more "their vision" of the game. For Dragoon, that sounds awesome. For Souls? Sounds awful.

For a second I thought a 2 was going to pop up.

Still, the original Souls game that started it all has been long overdue for an HD update (or is it a remake?). Either way Souls fans are going to be happy.
