Destiny 2 Curse Of Osiris DLC Release Time; Preloading Now Available

More server maintenance is planned prior to its launch.

Destiny 2's first big expansion, Curse of Osiris, is drawing near. With its release date scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, Bungie has shared some details regarding launch day and pre-loading, and it's also delivered a new trailer highlighting some of the DLC's new content. [Update: Destiny 2servers are now offline for maintenance and are expected to be back up at 10 AM PT, at which time a new update and Curse of Osiris will be available. Update 1.1.0 and Curse of Osiris itself can now be downloaded.]

Pre-loading will be available, but not especially far in advance. Players who pre-order the DLC won't be able to start downloading it until 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM GMT on December 5 (3 AM AET on December 6). Launch day will also see another maintenance period, although an exact schedule or timetable for this hasn't been announced. Curse of Osiris will be officially released once maintenance concludes.

Now Playing: Time Traveling in Destiny 2 Curse of The Osiris Live

In order to pre-load, you'll need to ensure you have enough storage space. The requirements range pretty dramatically from platform to platform; here's the minimum that you'll need on each system (which we can safely assume accounts for the size of the base game):

Curse of Osiris costs $20 or is included in the $35 Expansion Pass. It introduces a new planet, Mercury, for players to visit, along with new story missions, Strikes, Crucible maps, weapons, armor, and more--you can see some of the new gear in the video above. The expansion's release will coincide with the first of two big December updates. December 5 will also mark a change to Guided Games and the weekly reset schedule, and it will also see the release of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancements for Destiny 2.

You can't buy the dlc separately. They're afraid if you see how little it actually will adds you won't buy the second.

Will this be available for single purchase, or only with the Expansion Pass? I'm interested, but I'm not dropping 35 bucks. I'd rather buy each individually.

If Activision won't allow me the choice, I'll choose to spend my time (and money) elsewhere.

All I care about is feasting my eyes on the X Enhanced 4K mode. The PS4 Pro "Enhancement" was a joke.

@xavier141524: Im not trolling at all...Xbox one X is a waste of money...they had been saying for weeks that pubg would run at 60 fps on xbox, do your home work. I know PUBG on PC is CPU heavy, and not FPS...my point wasnt really about the fact pubg was the problem, my issue is xbox one x as a whole...The guy that started the thread was ripping on PS pro upgrade...im just saying, xbox hasnt been great either....looks nice, but no games, and the performance enhancement you would expect with games like pubg, is not there or supported.

The other big issue with one X is that studios need to actually create games that are 4K ready, there is no guarantee they will and since xbox has no studios or exclusives of note....well...then...my statement stands lol.

I own the Xbox one X, the pro and a PC...im not a fanboy, i love all of them for certain reasons, but im not giong to piss in someones ear and try to tell them its raining either.

Still only expansion pass for sale, not the individual dlc's. Maybe you can only preorder the expansion, & the individual dlc will be listed tomorrow? Y'all say it's happening so we'll see. That GS credibility on the line (I screen capped it, lol ).

@PixelAddict, @off3nc3: Yeah, the Xbox store finally got around to listing the DLC separately on release day. I don't know why they wouldn't let you preorder it. It gave the impression that gamers could only buy them as a bundle (especially on Xbox where if you went to the individual store pages for DLC1 and DLC2, it specifically said, "not sold individually."). That was made worse when many of us had asked Bungie on Twitter, on Bungie.net forums with no reply, and heard chatter in forums that made everyone think they weren't following the precedent they set with the Original. It was finally listed separately, but still ignored by Bungie. Maybe they just perma-ignore gamers that criticize them? I haven't played the dlc yet, but I am FINALLY starting to see some gear, ghost, ships, etc that make me want to grind for them. That was severely lacking before, so that's a start. I just wish they'd have either brought in all exotics from destiny 1, or not, but either way they should be disqualified from being treated as new content. I like seeing them but so much of this game is already worn thin on those of us that spend 3 years playing since beta of destiny 1, and we want to be excited, too. When more than half of exotics make you feel like they cut them out just so they could offer them again, that's a bad sign. ALL of destiny 1 should have been in this game if I had my way, & they kept in line with their original intent (or at least the majority understanding of that stated intent) to make destiny a 10 year game, as opposed to needing to sell & re-sell us new game/content every 3 years. Imagine the loyalty and praise they would have earned if they went that route. It's the kind of vision that being owned by a huge media company prevents them from implementing (aside from lacking talent and a connection to their audience, it can be due to cost & bureaucracy, as the big dogs see they can shovel out literal garbage & have people throwing them money...at least for the time being). At the same time, it's a vision that only a smaller or medium sized developer can have (one that is entrenched in the worlds they create for their beloved fan base), yet they could never afford something of that scope without a huge company like Activision owning them.

Xbox One X 4K patch is also coming out on the 5th as well. Will probably check it out again. It's really too bad that people who I was running with are dropping like flies...

No, It is not exclusive content (Bungi NEVERhad exclusive content in Destiny 1) Bungi said that those rumors were false and players simply want their friends to get a PS4 because they had one. PS4 has to reinstall Destiny 2 in order to run the application with its newest updates. Xbox just has to add on the new content.

@gamer645: Did you just say Bungie never had exclusive content? Umm yes, there was, on both Destiny 1 and 2 with PlayStation.

The following is from a Twitter conversation between Bungie Informer and dmg04.

"These are total storage requirements for Destiny 2, including Curse of Osiris.

PlayStation 4 requires a 88gb available storage during the installation process, but the total size of Destiny 2 will be 44gb."

Pretty sure the Pro already has a patch out. The game on my 1080p tv looks way better on my Pro than it did on my base PS4. Mostly particle effects.

It probably just redownloads the game again and adds the 2gb of measly content they added inside of the 88 lol.

Also, the environments look the same as the base game and they are reusing the vex AGAIN lol. I got my moneys worth out of Destiny 2 but man if it isn't the same crap over and over. I wish anthem would just come out already to bury this game and show bungie how its done (as long as EA executives don't ruin it with pay to win micro-transactions).

@darkhunterix: Anthem will make destiny and bungie look pretty stupid when it releases, bioware are a far better studio and their story telling is on another level.

@eternalrogue198: ya i was just telling my friends how good the new Mass Effect was, said nobody ever. BioWare was good...let's see how anthem turns out...to be fair, anything done by EA the moment will suffer.

@eternalrogue198: I expect Anthem to be a steaming pile of crap with even less content than the meagre amount D2 has. It will also be built around paid lootboxes that give in game advantages. They should just call it Pay To Win : The Anthem.

@spr1ggan87: exactly this..how anyone can be excited for Anthem at this point is baffling. You probably have to buy a loot box to start the game

Heh, I was reading the other comments and thought "meh, typical online complaining etc" and then I watched the video. It's bloody awful, sorry for doubting you folks. Still looking forward to the expansion though.

@gamingdevil800: The fact that there's even a second one is pretty cringey, all of this attempted appeal at an audience that is leaving them is all cringe-gravy.
