Destiny 2 Director Teases A Raid That Is Unlike All The Past Ones

"A place that you believe could exist."

Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith has teased the upcoming shooter's first raid. Raid 5, as it's known only right now, will be set in a place that players "believe is real," Smith said in a new interview with Mashable. He added that this raid, whatever form it takes, will be unlike the four that came before it.

"Raid 5, when we looked at it, it was about building a place you believe is real. That was our priority," he said. "A place that you believe could exist. It's unlike anything we've done. The team is incredibly talented; it is a joy to see them work."

Now Playing: Destiny 2 Mouse And Keyboard Run On PC - E3 2017

Destiny 1 had four raids: Vault of Glass, Crota's End, Kings' Fall, and Wrath of the Machine. Raid 5 sounds like it's going in a new and exciting direction, and we're eager to hear more about what's in store.

In other Destiny 2 news, Smith wrote on Twitter recently that he is very excited to be playing a new build of the shooter at home. Really excited.

Destiny 2 launches on September 6 for PS4 and Xbox One, and on October 24 for PC. Players can play in a beta for the game starting on July 18 for PS4, July 19 for Xbox One, and in late August for PC. You can read about why the PC version is coming out after the console versions here. In addition, we had a chance to talk with Bungie at E3 2017, and you can read our interview here.

Recently, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said Destiny 1 didn't release content fast enough to meet players' expectations. To address this, Activision is bringing in more studios to work alongside Bungie on Destiny 2.

I'm a big sci-fi fan, so I'd prefer to play a game set I places that wouldn't exist in every day life.

"A place you can believe exists"? So boring subway tunnels and factories?

It's weird how Bungie seems to hate their own sci-fantasy world. Maybe that's why the game is missing that magic "spark".

Only thing i hope from the raid is that its mmich longer then the ones from the first destiny. I thought they were toahort. So making them longer and adding more loot and etc to give reasons for people to go back to tbe raid would be nice

This guy is blowing smoke. He provided no detail whatsoever why it is so different from prior raids. I'm not holding my breath that this is any different other than maybe the setting.

@gameplayuk: How was King's Fall a rehash of VoG? It had more bosses and they were all more complex than either boss in Vault of Glass. And there was no Gorgon maze.

@Mogan: The formula used in all the raids is just the VoG formula. Yes, there may be some differences here and there but the core formula has been the same for the last 4 raids. Hopefully the new D2 raid will change things up.

Personally after being left and feeling screwed by destiny before even buying I want to see how matchmaking has been done. If BUNGIE are going the same route with matching people for raids where they can't find it in them to add random matchmaking, then I won't be buying destiny 2, I was left like many other unable to do raids yet it is the only game I've ever heard of do it in this way which puts up a brick wall against players who do not have tons of friends playing the game. I played many mmorpg's on pc and console and there raids always auto matched ransoms together if you didn't have a crap ton of friends or a clan to play with and they got on just fine.

So yeah I mite purchase if that gets sorted, but certainly won't if there's brick walls still in place.

@xzerocarnagex: In Destiny 2, solo players will be able to use guided games, supported to the in game clan system to join a clan based group to play through the normal version of the raids. With the option to then be invited/join the clan, to run the non match made hard mode raids.

@xzerocarnagex:

Do you play on Xbox or PlayStation?

I know what you mean I felt the same way for 2 plus years until Xbox added their Looking for group feature into the X1 dashboard.

I think Xbox's LFG is one of the best and most important features to be added to the ecosystem in years perhaps ever. It's literally made my Destiny experience 10 times better. Actually its what Bungie should have built into their games in the first place, to help people team up for Raids. It's very fast and effortless. I've managed to complete the weekly raids on my 3 guardians for the past 2 weeks now(recently just got back into Destiny) with LFG teams and I've had a blast.

On a negative note however, I'm thinking of skipping D2. I did feel ripped off at the beginning, plus having to wait for content some of which doesn't drop for Xbox until after the sequel releases has just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Does playstation have a LFG feature or something similar now??✌️

They DID build the feature into their games. Didn't you notice the matchmaking for strikes and multiplayer? That's the most damning thing about its exclusion. They CAN do it, they just refuse to do it because "WE KNOWS BETTER THAN YOUZ1!!"

@gamerbum: Yup, it's called Communities. I haven't used it at all yet, but looking over how it works, it seems easy enough to start up or join an existing one.

@xzerocarnagex: You are not alone in feeling that way. Here is what I have learned so far. Its not "getting sorted" as you put it. The only thing they are adding is what they are calling "guided matchmaking" Which allows solo players like myself to look for groups in the game that need a player for a full team. But that is just for what is called "normal" difficulty raids and strikes. The current question is, will all the raids and strikes have a "normal" difficulty? Currently in D1, the "Nightfall" strikes are only at heroic. Which you need to run if you want to get the "marks/currency" to buy gear with. If I can run ALL the content on normal difficulty with the guided I'm cool with that. I just don't have any trust that ALL the content will have normal difficulty with the associated "guided" matchmaking.

bungie i don't care if the place could be real that is not what i play a game for. i play a game to have fun if its not fun like some of your raids in the past then it doesn't matter how believable the place is.
