Destiny 2 Microtransactions: How Much Silver Costs, Where You Can Buy Shaders And Bright Engrams

Eververse Trading Company is back in Destiny 2.

Like the first Destiny (and many other games for that matter), the newly released sequel Destiny 2 lets you spend real money on a currency system called Silver. This takes place in Destiny 2's Eververse Trading Company store, which becomes accessible at Level 20. The character Tess Everis operates the store again, and here is a breakdown of the cost.

Destiny 2 Microtransaction Pricing:

  • 500 Silver -- $5
  • 1110 Silver -- $10
  • 2300 Silver -- $20
  • 5800 Silver -- $50

Everis sells Bright Engrams, which are sort of like loot boxes from Overwatch. It works out to 200 Silver for one, three for 500, and five for 800. Decode them and you'll earn special rewards like Exotic weapon ornaments, a Sparrow, emotes, or something else. As Polygon explains, there is a chance you could get an elemental weapon mod, which can affect gameplay and may be controversial because of that. Weapon stats can be "slightly" enhanced with these mods, and there are also armor mods and one for subclass abilities to make them regenerate faster.

Additionally, you can buy Destiny 2 emotes with Silver--and there are some cool-looking ones. For example, Spicy Ramen shows your character cooking and consumer spicy ramen while Flip Out displays your Guardian flipping a table over. There are also shaders, which has caused some anger among fans. Check out this video from YouTube's DestinyOverwatch to see all the Eververse items you can buy now.

Hey Gamespot

You have too many Destiny 2 articles. It's annoying to manuell "filter" out 75% of all articles. How about adding a "Hide all Destiny 2 fanpage stuff" button?

Anything that gives a player an edge should not be allowed. Or it should be sold in the open as 'pay to win' plain and simple. These random paid drops, when they have been covered by other games, normally don't yield their value. If you are going to implement pay to win then just implement it. Don't try to sneak it into the game and hope nobody notices.

The way it is being implemented at the moment is almost like gambling, you pay your money but have no idea what you might get. Which in turn could lead to somebody continuing to pay money until they get what they want. Bad show all around. Sell the mods, let people buy what they want and stop screwing around.

Nothing like a $60 game with shit tons of DLC and micro transactions out the asshole. You choose one or the other not both you greedy fucks. The only way I'll ever buy this game is when a "complete" edition is out for $30........so never

My question is, how can it be that no one tried to challenge these companies with the gambling board. Surely half of the player base is under age and this lootbox system surely is a form of gambling. Try just one more time...... maybe I will get the item I want.... a **** not this time, lets try again.... This sounds all to familiar.

@rickshaboy: They get away with it by claiming the items being gambled for have no real world value. Which is true - items in a video game cannot be converted to currency or legally sold and are thus worthless.

@rickshaboy: I do agree with you it's some what gambling and come with all the problems and ethics issues gambling. Legally its not, its a Gacha (gachapon) system. The big loophole is you are buy an object that contains random items, not betting money on whether or not that money will increase or diminish. There are other legal loophole used like the use of in-game currency and non-cash prizes . If this is to be regulated then they would also need to regulate blind box toy's, vending machine toys and TCG/sports cards packs.

@ello432: Basically gambling in essence. I think if there were a way to sell your gear or characters then the end result items you get would technically have a monetary value at that point and it could be considered gambling with a RNG.

@lionheartssj1: yes and no it can be as much compaired to gambling as it can be to opening a TCG pack. if you could sell the items it still wouldn't be considered gambling it would acually make it less like gambling and more like buying TCG pack . You can't loose you always get items, maybe not what you want but that's your problem not the games. You don't bet you buy. But at the end of the day It's still a system that need heavyer regulations.

@ello432: I see what you mean. It's definitely in a grey area that's directly controlled by Bungie/Activision. I agree that it needs more regulations. Unfortunately for now, it is a model that preys on people's impulse control and the odds of people stopping that is definitely in favor of the house.

@lionheartssj1: ya it defiantly falls in a grey area. Places in the world like Japan regulate gatcha systems. But the in-game currency is a loophole around their laws. It will be many years before the laws change and the loopholes close. sadly people will suffer as people profit

@nativepixel: I mean it is all based on chance as they stated, you have to fork out your own cash just to stand a chance to win. 777 Slot machines basically. how is this not different then.

@rickshaboy: It's different because a lot machines give you money if you win. The video game gives you "nothing". It's a digital item that has no value. It's just there to make you "feel" good. It has no impact on the game.

@nativepixel: It's a good question. Most of the games media have been eerily quiet on the whole issue (too quiet?). These guys at least weren't afraid to go there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j5ACiZin1c

So Destiny 2 is Pay 2 Win with a gambling element. Nice one Bungie.
