Destiny 2 The Lie Quest: Unlock Felwinter's Lie In No Time
A new quest has arrived in Destiny 2 with a grind that will lead to a new legendary shotgun, according to datamining--here's a guide on how to get it.
The weekly reset on May 12 brought something new to Destiny 2: a quest called The Lie. It started with a big community event that requires players to band together and complete Seraph Tower events all over the solar system, and ends with a bunch of new Rasputin lore and a powerful new shotgun: Felwinter's Lie.
The community-wide step is complete, allowing players to progress the rest of the quest on their own. Unfortunately, the quest was slowed pretty significantly, thanks to a bug that messed up The Lie's final step, a mission called "The Tyrant." A new patch has fixed that step, so everyone can now complete it. Here's how to get Felwinter's Lie in your collection as quickly and painlessly as possible.
The Lie Quest Steps
Warmind Evaluation
The first portion of the quest requires you to visit Ana Bray, who says that the warmind Rasputin has information it wants to share with you--but not before the situation with the Almighty, the threat that has loomed over the entire Season of the Worthy, has been satisfactorily dealt with. To get it handled, you and the rest of the Destiny 2 community needed to head to the EDZ, Io, and the Moon, and complete Seraph Tower activities. The good news is, that part is done.
One of Many
After completing "Warmind Evaluation," you'll head back to Ana Bray for an update on the situation. She tells you that Rasputin sees something special in you and plans to trust you with some important information. To get it, though, you'll need to take part in a mission that'll send you to the multiplayer map Vostok. You can load it from the EDZ map in the Director.
Vostok
The next step will send you to Vostok, the Destiny 2 Crucible map. That map is a portion of Felwinter Peak, where the Iron Lords' fortress is located. We haven't visited that location (outside of the Crucible) since Destiny 1. When you head to Vostok, you'll be investigating three "energy signatures" scattered around the map, which you'll discover by just wandering around. Ana will give you some story info for each one you find, but you won't have to contend with any enemies.
Shotgun Telemetry
This is the irritating step of the quest. To complete the Shotgun Telemetry step, you need to rack up shotgun kills: 1,000 of them, to be exact.
This one is a grind, but there are some ways to speed up the process. The best way we found to deal with this step was to equip a rapid-fire shotgun like Wishbringer, as well as the Exotic shotgun Tractor Cannon, and head to Mars. Fire up an Escalation Protocol round and use the two shotguns to mow down the Thralls that spawn. Tractor Cannon is particularly effective because it can shred multiple enemies at a time, while Wishbringer can knock out most early Escalation Protocol enemies in one shot or two at most.
Don't bother trying to progress through all the levels--you'll get lots of easily killed enemies on Level 1, which will give you the fastest progress through this step.
Lunar Trip
Once the shotgun work is done, you'll go to Rasputin's bunker on the Moon for a meeting. Enter the deeper part of the Moon bunker, which you normally have to clear to make upgrades to the bunker, in order to activate one last mission as part of the Warmind Heuristics step, called "The Tyrant."
Warmind Heuristics
This step's description reads mysteriously: "Investigate one of Rasputin's closest-held secrets." Opening the Moon bunker will launch you into a mission called "The Tyrant." There's no combat in this one--it's purely story, just like Vostok. Follow the waypoints to each of the holograms, where Rasputin will impart some info about his past and Felwinter, one of the famous Iron Lords. If you played Destiny 1, you might remember that Felwinter was with the Iron Lords when they were attacked by SIVA, the nanomachine plague central to the Rise of Iron expansion. Felwinter was destroyed, along with all the lords other than Lord Saladin (the Iron Banner guy) and Lady Efrideet.
Keep going through the mission and you'll eventually claim Felwinter's Lie. The shotgun sports some solid perks, including the ability to swap between Slideshot and Quickdraw, and Opening Shot and Vorpal Weapon.
