Destiny Rising RPG Announced, Takes Place In An Alternate Timeline In The Destiny Universe

Destiny Rising will offer a closed alpha test in November.

NetEase and Bungie have announced an all-new Destiny mobile game called Destiny Rising. The sci-fi RPG is set in an "alternate timeline" in the Destiny universe, featuring what NetEase described as "best-in-class" shooting action on mobile.

The game promises a "brand-new adventure with familiar and new characters," along with "an abundance of classic and brand-new modes." A closed alpha test will begin in November--you can pre-register now. Check out the announcement trailer below, while a more in-depth developer preview video below can be seen further down the page.

Check out the developer preview trailer below to hear directly from the developers about what makes Destiny Rising unique in a crowded market for mobile games.

In September, the existence of a Destiny mobile game from Bungie and NetEase leaked. It followed from the news in 2018 that NetEase would given Bungie $100 million to make non-Destiny games. Perhaps that arrangement has changed, as Destiny Rising is definitely a Destiny game, or there might be more in the works between Bungie and NetEase.

In addition to Destiny Rising, Bungie is working on a survival shooter called Marathon and apparently other projects as well. Bungie underwent significant changes in 2024, including mass layoffs that affected several senior staffers. Additionally, some inside Bungie are joining a new team within parent company Sony to create a new action game.

I think the "alternate timeline" is so lazy. It's like: "we want to milk the franchise for what it's worth, but don't want to bother presenting a coherent lore to the players".

Bungie dropped the ball with Destiny Lore when D2 dropped..

This universe isn't big enough/Worthy enough to have 'Alternate' timeline.

Just like SW & Halo they will just milk it until there's nothing left..

I feel like it was almost 10 years ago i left D2.
