Diablo 3's Necromancer Class Pack Launches Next Week

$15 gets you the Necromancer and more.

While it may not be a proper expansion pack, Diablo III is in line to receive some major new content very soon with the Rise of the Necromancer pack. This DLC, the core component of which is the new Necromancer class, finally has a release date and is slated to launch on June 27.

The pack is priced at $15 and will be available following the release of the 2.6.0 update on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Console players who don't yet own the game can pick up Diablo III: Eternal Collection, which bundles the pack with the existing Ultimate Evil Edition. This carries a price tag of $60 but will be available for a limited time for $40. Blizzard did not specify how long this introductory pricing would last for.

Now Playing: Diablo 3: Rise Of The Necromancer - Official Release Date Trailer

Rise of the Necromancer adds the Necromancer class, which is based on the fan-favorite one from Diablo II. It can be played in both the campaign and Adventure mode like any other character. The pack also includes a number of other, less significant components, most of which are previewed in the video above. There's a non-combat pet, set of cosmetic wings, banner customization options, portrait frame, and pennant. Players also get two more character slots and stash tabs, although the latter is only available to PC players.

All of this will be accessible once the Rise of the Necromancer pack goes up for sale, which will be once maintenance on June 27 is complete. You can see the exact schedule for this here; on PC it starts at 10 AM PT / 1PM ET in North America and at 11 PM CEST in Europe. On consoles, it starts at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 5 PM CEST.

Even if you don't purchase the new pack, you'll still be getting new content with the release of the 2.6.0 update next week if you own the Reaper of Souls expansion. The Shrouded Moors and Temple of the Firstborn zones, the Realms of Fate, and Challenge Rifts all release for free as part of the patch.

I laugh at everyone whining about the price. But they will go to a $10 to $14 movie, buy a $7 bucket of popcorn and a $6 soda for 2 hrs. LOL Or go to McDs for a $10 burger. Please stop the whining. This is priced very fairly, the Necro class is amazing plus all the other perks. I have zero issues pulling out my wallet. I will be online on June 27 kicking ass like I always do, till I get to GR 90! :/

The only thing I'll do is play around on the game guide skill calculator if they even seem to bother to get as far as putting it up on there. Path of exile added 6 acts whereas D3 adds a single class so I know which will get me most excited based on being able to play proper new content. I used to play D3 quite a bit too but it's just lacking in frequent development compared to games like path of exile and even when I bought Reaper of souls it didn't really feel like there was enough there with the ever changing shallow patches that just made one or 2 unique sets the OP obvious choice.

Can't believe they are charging for such a small update too. Blizzard really are knickle and diming this one.

@adwerk: I guess you didn't read the entire article:

The Shrouded Moors and Temple of the Firstborn zones, the Realms of Fate, and Challenge Rifts all release for free as part of the patch.

There are new zones...and you don't even have to pay for them! :)

@Zonsag: No, companies release DLC for games that nobody plays anymore or that do not exists.
Or so small minded kids can talk crap about them, because they are "smart" and register in websites to trash talk about the fools that play a game because they like them.

$15 seems like a tad much.

Thematically it feels like the Necromancer should have come out with the last expansion. Necromancers see death as this great equalizer and use it to bring balance. Malthael, an immortal angel and the aspect of wisdom, decides he is now the aspect of death now, breaking a pact to show up on sanctuary and wield the Necromancer's power of death for wanton destruction, probably should have pissed them off enough to make them show up front and center.

Well I can't complain too much, been playing this game on and off for years, generally showing up for every new season of the ladder. Definitely got my money's worth and appreciated the free content that has been given. Been holding off on playing since the Necro was announced, really wanted that to be my next project. The price tag is just a really unpleasant surprise to bitch about as I pull out my wallet.

@arktis87: Agreed the last expansion should have brought the necro class in, it would have tied in very well.

I would pay $5 maybe even pushing $10 but if you look at what blizzard charges for a pet in wow...can you really be surprised?

Same game, same everything just a new class and new gear really doesn't "grab" me to play this...blizzard really should have put this into a new expac and then paying $30 would have been alright even...typical blizzard

@N0madS0uL: except theyre also releasing a new zone... FOR FREE with the necromancer. meaning even if you don't buy the necromancer there's still a new zone to explore on the map, complete with new quests, etc.

and this isn't the first time theyve done this either. releasing new content for free.

but yeah yoiure right. typical blizzard. releasing content for free for everyone and then expecting to get paid for their hard work for those who find it necessary.

@hellnawafflecar: sorry, I must have missed that we getting new zones to play for free, please show or link where this is because according to the vid above we getting only stash space, character slots and some other cosmetic jazz and ofc the new class, so where is this supposed content you talking about and don't tell me its some 5min starter zone...please fanboy, stick to the topic, which I might add you technically agreed on and that is that $15 is a bit much for this UPDATE.

@N0madS0uL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wK9c2Gy4yQ first off. Second I agreed that IF all they were giving you was the necromancer then 15 bucks might be a little too much, however, it isn't. as mentioned previously theyre also giving you at least 5 bucks worth of cosmetics, character slots (which, meh) and bank tabs (which absolutely are worth at least 5 bucks for two) (and that's IF youre undercharging it). While I wouldn't be against them charging 10 for just the necromancer, the idea that 15 bucks for what they give you being too high is preposterous for anyone with even the slightest bit of sense. Third, the new zone is FREE. meaning no charge. for everyone who owns the game. and as was said, this isn't the first time this has happened. it's just the first time theyve expected to get paid for going above and beyond, which is undeniably what they did here.

@hellnawafflecar: My last post to you about this, go check again on blizzards site, the new zones are free to patch 2.60 which would have been released to anyone who bought the last expansion, so no, only class and cosmetic stuff for $15. So still as the OP said, a tad much...THE END.

No Act VI, no buy.

Sorry, Blizzard, but you really need to look into learning to count higher than III. Fun game, and I had a blast with it considering I paid $30 for the UEE, making it worth the asking price. But take a hard look at Borderlands 2, to see how to do a loot RPG right from the start, and look into doing a Diablo IV already.

this class should have come with the original diablo 3. making the dlc free could have been a good way to appoplgise for releasing an unfinished unplayable game in 2012 and butchering a great game series.

after all these years, it's still too easy to pull the "error 37" meme in each d3 article.

@hellnawafflecar: I played it, I played it a lot but the 'moneys worth' depends on if you mean quality or time spent. I can replay any game infinite times but the quality of this game wasn't worth the money. Diablo 3 was a huge disappointment for me as I loved Diablo 2 and I wasn't even the sort of hardcore Diablo 2 PVP typer. D3 really was a sad effort with a good update to the speed of the gameplay and lacking design choices everywhere else. Moved onto Path of Exile a while back, keep flicking back to the D3 website just to look at any interesting news and there is nothing worth while.

@Sigil-otaku: Yeah I'll never understand how people can say that d3 lacks depth and then talk about how path of exile doesnt despite the fact that it has no classes (not really) just suggestions for classes and less abilities.

@hellnawafflecar: Even back when D2s Lord of Destruction expac was released we got new classes so please don't advocate this behaviour of blizzard. They should have included the necro class either with original or with last expac. Making money off and "update" is really shameful imo

@N0madS0uL: it *was* going to be in an expansion (there were originally 2 planned), but either thats not ready or theyre working on 4. So unless you wanted them to wait for another full expansion, which... why? why does it matter when it came out if we're not being charged for that portion of the expansion. But you keep belieiving whatever narrative you want despite the facts, we both know you were gonna anyway.

@hellnawafflecar: Clearly you missed the part that we still dont know what the next expac will cost if there is any? You assume the next expac will cost $15 (or less than $25-$30) like this new class? Ergo paying for the new class $15 is the first part so now we wait for the rest? Sorry thats just silly and more a fanboy remark imo...

You know what they say about assumptions right? Charge us for the expac or D4 (if these are even in the pipeline which by the way they will do anyway and it will cost lot more than $15) but the argument most people have is why make it so expensive? Nothing is free sadly but an update or dlc with no real content for $15 is for many a touch much.

@hellnawafflecar: you seem to be missing the point I was trying to put to you, pricing, overcharging are all relative terms. For you maybe its not expensive, for others it is. In this case many myself included feel that charging for a class now is a "cheap" move from blizzard. $15 just feels like a bit much for an class only...THAT IS ALL.

I do hope though that yes they bring out another expansion and maybe that one will have no class but it will be cheaper than say the previous that had a new class and content...but i think it very unlikely

@N0madS0uL: right, and if this were destiny 15 bucks would be too much to justify it. all of those classes play exactly the same. but it isn't destiny. Having played it and seen the amount of work that went into the creation of this class, as well as knowing that it isn't *just* the necromancer the pack comes with, its also at least 5 bucks worth of cosmetics, it's easily worth 15 bucks. $15 might be too much for some to afford but that doesnt decrease it's actual value. especially considering theyre also releasing a new zone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wK9c2Gy4yQ for free, for everyone.

that being said: I wouldn't have minded if there were a 10 dollar option which didn't come with all of the cosmetic items that the necromancer pack comes with

@zura_janai: Why should the Necromancer have been included in Diablo 3? Each class in Diablo 3 had a direct parallel to a class in Diablo 2.

Witch Doctor - Necromancer

Demon Hunter - Amazon

Wizard - Sorceress

Barbarian - Barbarian

Monk - Paladin

Diablo 3 wasn't missing any classes. It wasn't unfinished. It wasn't unplayable.

@VooDooPC: afaik d2 had like 6 or 7 classes and its expansion brought much better content. and yes during launch some of the game features were broken and a lot of players couldnt even log in.

care to tell us how much blizzard is paying for defending them? because i would like to have a job for summer break.

@zura_janai: *during launch* it at spurts of unplayability. but that hasn't been for a long time now. and while yes, the game had 7 classes (after lord of destruction, before then it had 5, just like OG diablo3) they also planned on releasing 2 expansions for d3, and thus the classes were planned to be released in each separate expac.

care to tell us where you've been getting the crack you've been smoking? because you might want to try something that doesnt leave you so delusional.

Diablo 2 launched with five classes, two were added in the expansion. Diablo 3 launched with five classes. One was added in the first expansion and now this one is being released on its own. Both will end up with seven classes.

@N0madS0uL: My guess is that since the original game came out 5 years ago the player base has fallen off a lot. They probably don't expect it to sell as much as they'd like and have to increase the price to get the sales income where they want. Compared to something like Overwatch where they could probably release a character for $5 and still make a fortune because a billion people play that.

@Bamda: The mission packs for Starcraft 2 are less than $10. Hearthstone heroes are $10. World of Warcraft pets are all $10. Even the classic games, Diablo 2, Starcraft, and Warcraft 3 are all $10 each.

The only more expensive items are the World of Warcraft mounts and the higher card packs for Hearthstone (which go up to $70).

If anything, I'd say $10 is more in line with the typical price of Blizzard's DLCs.

@VooDooPC: Starcraft II DLC Legacy of the Void is $20. WoW has helms for $15 and mounts for $25. The point I am trying to make is that the price is very much in line with other content they sell.
