Diablo 4 Early Access Beta Suffering From Long Queue Times And Server Issues

Those eager to check out Blizzard's latest are currently stuck in queue hell.

15 Comments

The start of Diablo IV's early access beta period has not gone quite as planned, with queue times of nearly two hours for many players on top of authentication server issues resulting in slow or failed login attempts.

Login queues are nothing new for Blizzard games, but fans were perhaps not expecting ones quite so long, and for a preorder-only beta no less. In a list of known issues, Blizzard confirms that players may encounter queues during the early access beta, and that the queue countdown may finish and go beyond the duration of the timer. Blizzard is urging players to stay in queue if this happens, and notes that it will have "more accurate timers in place" for next weekend's open beta.

Blizzard customer service additionally confirmed that an issue is affecting the developer's authentication servers, which is resulting in failed or slow login attempts for some players who do manage to make it through the queues. The official Diablo IV Twitter account states that the beta may include bugs and issues, but that the team will "evaluate all feedback we've received and will make changes as needed."

Players aren't particularly happy about the situation, with some on Twitter noting that paying for the privilege of the early access beta, only for it to not be working as intended, is disappointing. Many players on Reddit have reported having the game crash or being disconnected mid-session, causing them to be kicked back to the back of the queue.

Fans eager to play Diablo IV's beta will have to overcome some lengthy queue times.
Fans eager to play Diablo IV's beta will have to overcome some lengthy queue times.

The entire experience is already invoking memories of Diablo III's infamous 2012 launch and the dreaded "Error 37" message that prevented eager players from accessing the game for an extended period. Thankfully, this is just an early access beta and not the full Diablo IV launch, so here's hoping Blizzard can learn from its beta testing periods and better prepare for Diablo IV's official release on June 6, 2023.

For those who do manage to battle their way past the Diablo IV beta's dreaded queue boss, a number of exclusive titles and an adorable wolf pup backpack that will carry forward into the full game await those who manage to reach certain milestones in the beta. The beta includes all of the game's first Act and will allow players to reach a max level of 25. The early access beta features three classes to choose from--Barbarian, Sorcerer, and Rogue--while the open beta will include all five of the game's launch classes, adding Druid and Necromancer to the mix.

its all about the hype train people come back thinking blizzard is the same company that use to make great games. but instead find A Blizzard that just copys its old games with little innovation.

after they overload the servers with there hypetrain, month later they find themselves playing something on the ps5

Sigh... I've been watching some gameplay for a few hours and it looks like it's going to be another mid game just like Diablo 3. I made a small list of the things that put me off:

- Too much story so you never get to feel isolated. They have NPC story characters going into dungeons with you and talking all the time, cutscenes, etc;

- Mechanics where the thing you're trying to kill becomes immune and you're forced to attack other stuff before you're allowed to damage them;

- Weird gamey MMO-lite events with time limits in the world, which shatters immersion;

- Open-world syndrome, checklists;

- Dismantling and crafting, a.k.a unnecessary bloat that isn't fun to engage with;

- There's still health orbs every other kill instead of the potion belt, trivializing the game;

- Everything's automated really:
- - No portal/identify scrolls;
- - No inventory Tetris since all loot is the exact same size;
- - No stat allocation;
- - Legendaries are too strong for how easy they are to get, so there's no reason not to use them (Borderlands 3 has this problem too);

- The music and sfx are very generic... listen to any audio from Diablo 1 and 2 and you can tell it's from those games. Here, not so much.

- $70 game, always online, battle passes.

@Tiwill44: I felt it was same as D3 with a different context and it is not necessarily bad and will still play it and I am used to the Orbs belt which I did see and there is just an test tube icon which I discovered in the nick of time as I was on the verge of dying. I hope to see more improvements over time even after launch but Diablo series is vulnerable as it is on it's fourth release.

@Tiwill44: I played for a few hours last night and those aren't health orbs so much as they are replacement health potions. You don't pick them up unless you have space to pick them up and they don't regen your health unless used. On top of that you only get 4 of them early on and have to earn renown to get more than just the four of them.

Otherwise a lot of what you have to say is valid and should be looked at by Blizzard.

I mean, to play devil's advocate, getting a refund for a pre-order because the beta doesn't work isn't automatically a bad move on their part.

This game requires online support which means you can't even play single player if the servers are broken/down and who's to say the game won't be wonky for a week when it launches?

They never said they won't buy the game, just that they canceled their pre-order.

Personally I think all Pre-orders are a scam nowadays as it's an excuse for studios to release a half baked pie. If I MUST pre-order(because of the bonus) I never do it more than a day or two before it comes out which doesn't really hurt a person who usually gets games on the day of launch. That being said, NEVER PRE-ORDER A SEASON PASS. If you absolutely have to get it then get it when the first chunk comes out so you have an idea of what else is to come.

I have the money to purchase it but ill wail for next week beta if i get in by the looks of it.

I dont see what kind of changes will be done in such short time tbh, feedback here will affect mostly crafting and creep power level tbh with the usual bug(fixes) that having an extended pool of players tend to uncover.

I opened the game, saw the 82 minute queue, closed the game, uninstalled it and contacted my game seller for a refund. Thankfully my refund was provided promptly and without issue.

Honestly I have no interest in ever preordering a Blizzard game ever again. Lesson learned.

@the_connoisseur: You refunded because a beta, the thing they do to test the unfinished game and the servers, wasn't working smoothly?

@the_connoisseur: What!!!!

That is funny af but i suspect it's not a joke and that makes it

odd at best...

Dude,,Diablo betas are always a mess cause it's a beta..

People still have PTSD over Diablo3 early days....

~~Does pre-ordering a digitl game have any benefit for the player??

I miss the days you'd get cool Sh.

Connoisseur,,guys,,Do you remember StarWars Empire@War RTS around

2006'ish??

I got the coolest pre order gift still to this day.

It was a mini Deathstar about the size of a pack of ciggarettes but thicker.

It would sit on ur desk and the button played the Deatstar laser.

EDIT~~ I decided to find a pic of it & after 10 minutes i tracked it down.

Star Wars Empire At War Desktop Death Star Ball w/ Sounds 2006 *RARE* FREE SHIP! | eBay

They just dont do cool sh like this for pre ordering anymore.

Same thing with Dead Island Riptide. the game came in this awesome mini suitcase which to this day i still use in my car for misc bs.......

@the_connoisseur: You uninstalled and refunded the game because the beta had a long queue? Interesting.

@timemasheen: I agree and wait for the launch same will happen as it is not uncommon to get long queues as everybody is trying to get on and overload whatever servers they have available, and I just sit it out and let the hoopla die down before getting on and sometimes you can have enough but still run into a queue overload. I always pre-ordered anything dealing with Diablo even D3 which may have been very faulty but has since been corrected as I love Diablo. but that is his prerogative.

This happens literally every time they do an open beta with these games. And happens on like, the actual launch week of their games too lol.

Nothing new.

By a show of hands, who's surprised that there's server issues with a new, huge game that a lot of people want to play??

@DarkLord: It is pretty obvious that Diablo is a popular game, so definitely no surprise.
