Dirt 5 Can Run At 120 FPS On Xbox Series X
Dirt 5 developer says the power of Xbox Series X allows for high resolution and high frame rate.
Dirt 5 will utilize the power of the Xbox Series X to have the option to run at 120 fps, Codemasters said in an interview.
In an interview with Xbox Wire Codemasters technical director David Springate revealed how the developer was using the upgraded hardware of the Xbox Series X to develop Dirt 5. Springate said that not only could the game reach 120 fps, but they were surprised how quickly they got there.
"More importantly, I was shocked at how quickly we could hit 120 fps!" Springate said. "We hadn't done any optimization for it at this stage but the game was frequently hitting 120 fps." Springate cited the system's GPU and CPU for making this possible in addition to improving physics and lowering input latency.
He also said the transition to developing for the new hardware was was easier, thanks to a toolset, the Game Development Kit, letting Codemasters start development sooner than expected.
"This kind of thinking from Xbox allowed us to get a real head start on next-gen development," Springate said. "I’ve never worked on a console launch where, while we’re still months away from release, the tools have been this mature, this stable, this easy to work with."
Dirt 5 is releasing in October 2020 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, as well as Xbox Series X and PS5 when they release holiday 2020.
