Splash Damage's free-to-play multiplayer PC shooter will be published by Nexon America.

Upcoming free-to-play game Dirty Bomb--from Brink developer Splash Damage--has been renamed Extraction, it was announced today.

No Caption Provided

Nexon America will publish the free-to-play multiplayer PC shooter, which will be available in North America and Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Splash Damage is also currently working on the multiplayer component for Batman: Arkham Origins.

In Extraction, players can choose from dozens of roles with different play styles and abilities, and fight in teams to vanquish enemies by defending or attacking key objectives.

The game is set in an evacuated London, following a "mysterious radiological attack," as squads of mercenaries take to the streets to extract valuable information left behind.

Extraction promises a "fair and balanced" playing field achieved through an analytics and telemetry system called ECHO. This was not detailed.

The game will be on display at PAX Prime in Seattle this weekend.

"dozens of roles" So translated from developer speak to English, there will be roughly three.

Well, this is one change of title I can support. "Dirty Bomb" just sounds like something I flush down the toilet everyday.

Doesn't get more bland. At least Dirty Bomb made you tilt your head. Doesn't look interesting either way.

Splash Damage has gotten worse with each game since their amazing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Quake Wars was OK.

Brink was bad.

Extraction looks even worse.

No, I mean Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, which was way better than Quake Wars: Enemy Territory. @ali_manslayer @wEEman33_IV

"Brink" and "Extraction". They must be trying to corner the market on generically-named games.

Honestly, if someone had asked me if there was a game called "Extraction", I would've replied, "yeah, probably". It's so generically military-sounding that I figured someone would've already gone with it.

@Guest1001 When I think "Extraction" I think something along the lines of drilling oil wells.

@bouchart @Guest1001 "Bravo 6 Actual, the Target is down"

"Copy that Bravo 1, move to extraction point"

"Jesus, Actual. I have to assassinate their leader and steal their oil???"

I still think about what brink could have been. I mean imo its was a solid shooter and was really trying to be innovative in a sea of military shooters and what not but man it was unplayable. How do you make an MP only online focused shooter that has some of the most broken netcode ive ever seen? I dont think i ever complete a full match from start to finish in brink. Just completely non functinonal and they let the game ship that way sad.

Instant loss of interest in the whole thing.

WOW!!! a F2P MP shooter!!! HOW ORIGINAL.

does anybody remembers Syndrome from the incredibles? he wanted to sell equipment that gave super powers to everyone, and if everyone has super powers then no one has.

same goes with F2P! too many are coming out, and this could cause many to not turn a profit or even humper good F2P games. The F2P scene has already starting to show signs of fatique.

@PETERAKO Good I hope F2P dies before it tries to take over the world... Though there are a few well used instances, I'm hoping those few games take all the business and the 'money first' people all go bust... But that requires the average consumer to actually figure out which games are which... and just asking them to think is too much.
