Disgaea 3 Returns on PlayStation Vita - Report

Nippon Ichi bringing strategy-RPG to Sony's new handheld, teases new titles from Prinny and Disgaea teams.

Disgaea is on the go once again. According to Dengeki PlayStation (and translated by Andriasang), Nippon Ichi has confirmed Disgaea 3 Returns--an enhanced port of the original PlayStation 3 strategy role-playing game--is in development for the PlayStation Vita.

Disgaea 3 protagonist Mao is the top honors student in the Netherworld Evil Academy.

While it's not clear if Disgaea 3 Returns will be ready for the system's Japanese launch later this year, Nippon Ichi did spell out some of the game's new features. In addition to four new scenarios and a pair of additional characters, the PS Vita release of the game will pack in all of the PS3 version's downloadable content.

In the same Dengeki PlayStation interview, Nippon Ichi teased a quartet of new titles on the horizon. The Prinny team is working on an action-role-playing game with 3D visuals, while the Disgaea team is collaborating with "a famous illustrator" on character designs for its next title, according to Andriasang's translation. The other two games are a new project from System Plasma and a Japanese import of a 3DS game that has already proven popular in international markets.

A January 2008 release in Japan, Disgaea 3 introduced a new main character and supporting cast, much like the series' first sequel. However, staples like the Netherworld setting and the abundance of knife-wielding penguin helpers known as Prinnies returned, lending some continuity to the franchise.

It'd be nice if games/ports like this were PS3/Vita games. Playable on either system, with an easy way to transfer your saves back and forth so you may take the game on the go.

I'll still get the PS3 version over this (not really excited about al them small enhance features), I rather play it full screen in HD than in small screen in whatever the Vita features.

I love Disgaea games but I just wonder if will be able to use my save from PS3, I don't see myself starting the game again ( although I probably end up doing it)

Another port for the Vita! I guess the Vita has the upper hand on the port war with the 3DS lol, I don't know why the people hate the 3DS so much just for a few ports/remakes (zelda, star fox, tales, metal gear, ssf4, blazblue, etc) but they don't say anything about the huge amount of ports or spin offs announced for the Vita. And don't get me wrong, I already have a 3DS with some of these ports and I'll get a Vita and pick some of these games, I think it's something good to have the chance to play them on the go, it's just that I don't understand why all this hate for the 3DS, but then I remember that the fanboys and trolls exist XD

Nice. These games are perfect for portable systems and I love me some Disgaea. Adding in the DLC content (instead of charging $50 for it) is also a nice apology to the fans.

wait. are they actually using 'returns' for the name of the game? i think that is kind of ood. like Nintendo, when they announced donkey kong country returns, I didn't expect they were going to name it like that :P

If the Vita version will include all the DLC from the PS3 version, then they should stop charging for the DLC and make it free for those of us who already own the game on PS3.

All the more reason to get a Vita. Might consider getting one now, since Disgaea's brought into the mix.

@zeldafreak4life Your not the only one! I was quite let down with Disgaea 3 because I KNOW it could have been played on PS2 and PSP. But looking at Dis 4 over at Anime Expo and I have to say I'm impressed. Also agree with the 2nd part. I'm hoping Vita is a lot more useful than 3DS come launch and months after that.

Great to hear! I love the series, but found myself with more time to play it on a handheld and was never able to really dig in to Disgaea 3 as much as I would have liked to on the console. Will definitely pick this up!

This is cool but honestly...it could have easily been on the psp. That being said, I'm very happy there will be a lengthy RPG on the Vita somewhat early in it's life cycle. HOPEFULLY it will be more useful than my 3ds when it first comes out >.>

There's no way the PlayStation Vita's battery is gonna hold out for 200+ hours at this game.

Nice. I spend a lot of my time in a college dorm room without a console, so I'm really hoping the Vita becomes a port machine :D
