Disney CEO Pushed To Consider "Bolder Transformation" In Gaming - Report

Disney reportedly considered acquiring Electronic Arts.

Disney executives reportedly wanted to become a gaming giant and considered acquiring Electronic Arts. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger isn’t committed to the idea.

According to Bloomberg, "Iger’s deputies are pushing him to consider a bolder transformation of Disney from gaming licensee to gaming giant through, say, an acquisition of Electronic Arts. But, as with everything else, he’s been noncommittal."

Disney was in the game publishing business until 2016, when it closed Avalanche Software and then proceeded to license out its properties to other developers. In recent years, Disney licensed games include Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, as well as Return to Monkey Island. Furthermore, Disney has said that it is interested in working with studios of all sizes, including indie ones.

This isn't the first time we've heard of Electronic Arts potentially being acquired. Last year, NBCUniversal and EA were reportedly going to merge but the deal fell through. Additionally, there was rumor that Amazon was going to put in a bid to acquire EA as well, but nothing transpired.

It's either this or completely overhaul their licensing to have better control. In the last 6 years starting with the EA's loot box fiasco we've also had Avengers (delisted already), Midnight Suns (new content ended before it was even released for Switch), Dreamlight Valley (about to launch w/o fixing Switch crashes), Speedstorm (it's pretty and it has good music those are pretty much the only things it's gotten right), and Marvel SNAP (making loads of money but after the first month they decided they wanted even more and they've gone about it in the worse ways possible). All of these erode at the Disney Brand, and Disney either needs way more say or they just need to take back control. No need to pay others to hurt your image when you could be doing it yourself and saving a buck.

I've got no interest in supporting either of those corporations and I love a good train wreck. I'd like to see what happens when awful is aquired by evil.

For the love of god, no... Netflix and Disney have already ruined the other entertainment side.
