According to the official synopsis, "Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family's home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers… and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home."
The story for Home Sweet Home Alone doesn't seem like it's a reboot. It's just another story about a kid left in his house, all by his lonesome--much like 1997's Home Alone 3, which followed the exploits of Alex Pruitt. Things got a bit weirder with 2002's Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House, as the movie once again followed the McCallister family, but it recast everyone, and the story focused on Kevin's parents going through a divorce. In 2012, the fifth movie, Home Alone: The Holiday Heist was released, which followed a kid trying to stop burglars.
If you're looking to rewatch the first three Home Alone movies, they're currently available on Disney+, and Home Alone 4 and 5 are available to stream on HBO Max.
