Last month it was reported that the next film in the Divergent film series would be heading to TV, following the disappointing box office take for this year's Allegiant. Actor Miles Teller, who has appeared in all the movies so far, has now revealed that he doesn't know if he'll be returning for the next one.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Teller admitted he had no idea if the future plans for the series of Young Adult adaptations included him. "We'll see. I honestly haven't talked to anybody," he said. "It caught us all by surprise."

"Things do change anytime they're messing with something that was not the original intention. We all signed on for it in hopes that it'd be released in theaters, and we all had every intention of finishing [the franchise]."

Teller isn't the only cast member who was not told in advance about the decision to switch the franchise to TV. Lead actress Shailene Woodley also expressed surprise when the news was first announced. "Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened and I landed, and I'm like 'Whoa, what's going on?!' I need to talk and find out what the details are," she said (via Screenrant).

Allegiant's box office debut brought in $29.1 million, which was a more than 40 percent drop from both Divergent and first sequel Insurgent's opening weekend earnings. Allegiant went on to make $179.2 million with a budget of $110 million, not including marketing.

The series also stars Theo James (Underworld: Awakening), Ansel Elgort (Carrie), and Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road), and is is based on a post-apocalyptic book series by author Veronica Roth.
