DMC/Bayonetta Crossover Would Be "Mind-Blowing," Capcom Producer Says

While it's not in development or discussion, Capcom's Rey Jimenez says a crossover game could be "epic."

Although such a game is not in development, Capcom producer Rey Jimenez says a Devil May Cry/Bayonetta crossover title has a lot of potential. It's a game he'd like to play, saying in a new interview that it would be "dope" and "mind-blowing," while also cautioning that this is not the company's official stance, just his own opinion.

No Caption Provided

"Personally, as a developer and a gamer, I would love to do that," Jimenez said in a new Hip Hop Gamer interview about the possibility of such a game. "It would simply be the most insane, gonzo action game you would ever see, with tag-teams, back-and-forth switching, and combos. Hair-dragging attacks with stylish Dante or whoever coming in and doing stuff. So that would be an action dream come true."

Jimenez stressed that he's not speaking on behalf of Capcom, but rather just offering his own personal opinion. Still, he said it's something Capcom might consider taking on in the future, provided there's enough interest and demand for such a game.

He did not touch on the numerous licensing and revenue agreements that both Capcom and Sega would need to settle on in order to even begin work on such a project.

"I'm sure Capcom is always up for doing new and cool things," he said. "I don't know if this will ever happen, but I can't deny that the thought of it would be totally mind-blowing and epic."

Asked to elaborate further regarding his comments about tag-teams in a potential Devil May Cry/Bayonetta crossover game, Jimenez said only, "That would be dope."

Jimenez also says in the interview that he worked with some of the Platinum Games Bayonetta developers back when they were employed at Capcom, so he knows them well.

Jimenez is a producer at Capcom's office in San Francisco. Some of the game he's worked on include fighting titles such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Devil May Cry Definitive Edition, an updated version of the 2013 game, launches March 10 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Meanwhile, the most recent entry in the Bayonetta series was last year's Bayonetta 2 for Wii U, which GameSpot awarded a perfect 10/10.

I totally support the crossover game. Love both franchises. It could start something never before seen in gaming history.

Capcom can stay away from Bayonetta and Platinum Games since they can't even handle their own franchises.

If its done by Platinum Games and if it stars the original Dante, then I think that would be great.

Or if it were not an action game at all, but some Japanese dating sim game - that would also be cool...

That would be an epic crossover BUT only if Platinum Games does it. No Ninja Theory or anyone else.

Seems to me that Capcom just wants to hang on to Bayonetta's coattails.

If this is the only way to bring back Bayonetta to other consoles, I'd support it anyway I can. Maybe a kickstarter project?

If it's going to happen then surely it needs to be the original Dante, right? And Vergil wouldn't fit into that space at all, but both are needed for some level of balance, which I think is one reason the story of DMC4 felt a little flat.

I just can't see any way it would work otherwise.

In the back of my mind though, I hope it doesn't happen at all.

That's gotta be awesome for the guys at Platinum. They have their former employers beggin' for their new ip. Well actually the ip belongs to Sega but they hit a home run immediately after leaving Capcom, while Capcom on the other hand, doesn't seem to know where to go with DMC or anything else, really.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's a mix of speculation and comments from some developers, not to mention the art book having a lot of evidence pointing to a incomplete game. Nero still had his story play out on the surface, while Dante was fighting generals in Hell. It was going to be their biggest project yet.

This idea is really great for both parties. These badass characteres (old dante & bayonetta) must cross path as an enemies, which make so much interesting and fantasy story.

Capcom and Platinum must think carefully about this idea.

Bayonetta doesn't deserve to be sullied by Dante's latest incarnation. Get stuffed Capcom.

Fans (me included ;D) fantasized about such a crossover for years now, pretty much since bayonetta 1.

Though I'm kinda grateful that capcom didn't get their grubby hands on Bayonetta so far. They already ruined enough franchises over the last few years, so at least leave us 1 good hack'n'slash franchise.

Only way this lives up to what it could be is if it's made by the DMC3 team, or the Bayonetta team. Anyone else, no thanks.

So what would the game be about? Bayonetta teaching the punk some manners?

I still can't believe what they did to Dante. But oh well, there has to be some innovation, whether good or bad.

Ummm.... NO.

DMC doesn't hold a candle to Bayonetta, and I wouldn't trust Capcom to touch this property in the first place.

<< LINK REMOVED >> DMC is hardcore. Bayonetta is casual look at how when you die at a boss fight that revive you at full health right when you died. Lol Dante is too hardcore to be put Bayonetta
