Does Halo Infinite Have Campaign Co-op? Not Yet, But It's Coming

You'll have to wait until next year to explore Zeta Halo with a friend.

Halo Infinite released on December 8, and if you weren't following the news leading up to its launch, you might be surprised to see the game doesn't include a cooperative campaign option. However, fear not, as the feature will be in the game--just not yet. So, when exactly can you play Halo Infinite campaign co-op, and why wasn't it included in the game at launch? We break it all down below.

When is Halo Infinite campaign co-op coming?

The Halo Infinite campaign co-op mode is scheduled to release at the end of Season 1--roughly. This means around May 2022, but no official date has been confirmed and 343 Industries did not guarantee it would hit this date. With the season scheduled to run for several months longer than expected, this means subsequent content will also come later.

Now Playing: Halo Infinite Campaign Review

It's not the only campaign feature players are waiting on, either. At launch, Halo Infinite is lacking a mission replay feature, meaning the only way to go through your favorite story moment again is to start an entirely new game. This is also going to change via an update, but it does make skulls a challenge to collect--our Halo Infinite skulls guide can help with that, though.

Why is Halo Infinite campaign co-op not included at launch?

It comes down to prioritizing other content in order to maintain a high quality benchmark. Halo Infinite was delayed a full year after players voiced concern over the unimpressive videos in a 2020 demo, and 343 Industries spent that time making massive improvements. Due to the time spent working on that, however, it didn't have time to get the cooperative portion in a polished state, and though the team says it's currently "playable" internally, it wouldn't be the world-class experience players expect. The same goes for Forge mode, which will arrive one season later than cooperative campaign mode does.

So I downloaded this last night from game pass so no complaints about cost but originally I expected when 343 made H4 that it would be a flop but actually, I don't think they did much wrong. The AI rampancy was clever, perhaps my only gripe being that the forerunner boss was clearly OP and chief needed a malfunctioning AI to succeed but then 343 made H5. Got me psyched for a Chief vs Locke campaign which just didn't really happen and instead the bad guy turned out to be Cortana (huge mistake). If the game played as it was advertised, it would have been great but for me, they made countless terrible decisions for the H5 campaign but since Infinite is 'free' to download for game pass players, I thought I'd try it. Definitely doesn't play like a Halo game at the beginning until you get to the surface of Zeta and with the new AI being like Cortana, that's a huge plus but Cortana herself would have been better if they hadn't made her evil. I've not delved far in Zeta yet but from my recent uptake of Destiny 2, I feel this is the kind of direction Halo should be heading now (copying Bungie lol), sure keep your multiplayer stuff which doesn't interest me just like Crucible in D2 doesn't interest me but ideally, would have been good for say, Halo 2 to have the chief travel between earth, High charity, halo ring and maybe others. Chief appears to be laboring around just Zeta and you can't yet have buddies join you. D2 recently launched their 30th anniversary pack of which is Halo themed and makes me kinda regret that Bungie let this franchise go and kinda made a better one, albeit with many issues that make me want to rage quit at times. Halo just doesn't seem to have the substance anymore. The naming of weapons seemed pointless too going from pistol to sidekick and such. Grappling hook is a good idea but might get overused. Don't know if jetpacks are still in or bubble shields and such and for the most part, I just feel like I am playing or watching an aged Spartan suffering from serious PTSD. Kinda feel that players that don't want Halo ruined for them should stop after H3 or H4. It's just getting tiresome now and they are basically trying to undo their massive decisions from H5 and it isn't an easy return from this for those that loved the campaign until recently. Only playing it cos I ain't technically paid for it but would like to see multiplayer style, similar to D2, huge open world(s) where you can join with friends or strangers and complete tasks and missions. Feel like 343 are decades behind the front(fore)runners.

For co-op and forge??

Why is this game 60 dollars? They campaign alone should been 29.99

Multiplayer is free....

If a lot of work still needs to be put it to the game then why is it released in Early Access because that is what it is. Early Access

Not Beta or Alpha. Early Access

@at0m1x: does that mean every single game that hasn’t got co-op in their campaign is in early access? Or that every single player game in which the campaign is roughly 12 hours long have to have their price capped at $30?

@MigGui: It's about precedent within a product line. This product line practically invented the modern Co-Op campaign, and it has been a selling feature in every launch since. Its omission here was a mistake on their part, and they are being fairly judged for it.

Five months, (at least), is beyond ridiculous. Sorry, but it just is.

@thecupidstunts: I understand there is a lot of work and balancing that people overlook for co-op to work. However...what the hell does campaign co-op's release have to do with the multiplayer seasons? 😄

Like mp game modes we're used to since the 90s. Thank you very much, 343. Very generous of you.

They locked the Halo reddit for the online disaster and put it back to normal right when they were ready the earn the praise for the solo gameplay. Embarrassing behavior.

@lifeisabeach: The reddit got locked because so many people posting there are cowards, dickheads, and half-n-half douchebag/scumbags. Seriously.

Don't put that on the developers.

@theduckofdeath: why not? Who is responsible for the:

Xp Grind? Devs are

Bugs and glitches? Devs are

For releasing the game early? The responsible one is the Publisher MS

Ever since 343 took control from Bungie it's always a bug fest.

@at0m1x: Yes, the devs created the game, so they are responsible for bugs. That is how being a creator works. The consumer pays & plays and doesn't contribute much else. Unfortunately, too many as miserable and despicable individuals who desperately want to a part of something (negative), given a forum to broadcast and rally.

The "Grind" as you say, is what you make of it. There is no "grind" to be had if you want to level up the Battle Pass. You are given double XP perks every 5 levels and are award 1000 points for 6 games a day. Save one for Tuesday after weekly challenge reset, use any others after daily reset.

Unless you want each weekly ultimate reward, are compelled by incrementing numbers, or like to play dress up a little too much, I don't see an immediate problem with the levelling.

Complain (with come dignity, please) about something practical that impacts gameplay negatively. Say...the melee warping and the poor hit detection in many matches.

@theduckofdeath: Fair enough. I put it on the wonderful Halo community. No for real: I think, the people are a bit on edge right now, because of Covid and stuff. But again: I don't think this behavior is excusable. Don't get me wrong.

@lifeisabeach: You know 343 has nothing to do with the halo subreddit right? It got locked out due to overwhelming death threats to the developers so it was cleaned up so it wouldn’t get banned by Reddit.

@ice12tray: Pretty sure, 343 asking them after days of possible clean-up work can open it back up. Death threats are horrible and inexcusable, but I have lost faith in 343. There are so many wrong decisions with this game.

I've played these games over and over again in co-op because they are my wife's all time favorite. I tried playing this solo and was just so underwhelmed. Reminded me of how bland the series is on it's own merits.

Here's hoping co-op doesn't get delayed any further.

@skyhighgam3r: I agree, MP seems to be the biggest draw of these games post halo 2, but me and my friends love campaign mode co-op. Sitting in a room, yelling back and forth, throwing shoes, dogs, cats at each other while trying to complete the campaign on each difficulty setting is always a blast. Playing the campaign by ones self is .... kinda cool, but with more, so much better.

@skyhighgam3r: Cant really generalize this game with the series. Its open world and changes a lot about the game.

@gabegurwin: Well.... kind of. Frankly it's about as deep as Far Cry 2. The moment you unlock your first FOB, and little icons pop up around it, "that's it" for 6 of the next 10 hours.

1. Find Warthog.

2. Fill with Marines who you gave good weapons to

3. clear the POIs same as every other boring open world map, except easier. The same "rocking boat" and "circle strafe driving" Warthog moves work against all enemy AI here, same as every Halo game before it.

The only thing missing, which every other game had.... Is my Co-Op friend filling the lack of genuine fun.

The yellow-diamond levels load like normal linesr Halo levels, and provide the only challenge. So why is the filler in between? Aha -- so they can sell new content and have a map to drop it into.
