Id Software's new Doom comes out next week. While you have to wait a little while longer to play the latest installment in the iconic shooter series, you can now check out its launch trailer.

Id Software executive producer Marty Stratton and creative director Hugo Martin recently joined GameSpot for a Doom single-player livestream, in which they talked to us about the game and its intense difficulty mode, Ultra-Nightmare. This mode is so challenging that not even the developers can beat it.

Probably won't get it on launch and will wait a little while, but that single player and the snap map look great. Multiplayer is terrible though. Really hope creating custom game modes saves it.

@savagerodent: Snapmap isn't special considering the more advanced map editors for earlier games, it will still be far too limited considering it will be within console limitations so console users can also use it.

@savagerodent: You won't be able to do any intricate detailing, you con only stick together already made level pieces but not your own custom ones as far as I know.

@jack00: True, it does not feel exactly like CoD but it's still rather mindless. The fast-paced shooting is kinda fun but it has no innovative mechanics, either in movement or destruction, that hold it up above a generic shooter. It got boring pretty fast for me.

@turretx7: Unless it has an arcade style mode with no loadouts or gimmicks, I just don't care to play it. Not saying I won't try it out, but I'm getting this entirely for the campaign.

@artemis-v: Same here. I've never really thought of Doom as some patriarch of multiplayer shooters anyway; that's always been Quake for me.

I hope this is good. The beta has me worried (at least for the MP portion of the game), but the SP stuff they've shown looks like classic Doom, which is great obviously.

@Greyfox-101: Agreed, the single player looks fun, and the snap-maps feature also looks amazing; since you could create your own survival mode and just kill endless demons. The MP will be saved if they have a game type with no load outs - that is the only thing I really didn't like about it. Otherwise, it felt like an old school arena shooter with some new features.
