The classic beat-'em-up franchise Double Dragon is coming back this summer, as Modus Games and Secret Base have announced Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons for consoles and PC.

Rise Of The Dragons is a 2D side-scrolling beat-em-up featuring Billy and Jimmy Lee from the original Double Dragon games, along with 11 other playable characters. The list of playable heroes includes Marian, the damsel no longer in distress wielding a rocket launcher, and the brand-new Uncle Matin who uses a riot shield to soak up damage.

This new Double Dragon game features a new and unique mission select mechanic--the order in which players select missions will affect that mission's length, number of enemies, and difficulty. Cash can also be earned with special KOs, which can then be used to purchase upgrades for future missions.

Double Dragon Gaiden is the first Double Dragon game since 2017's Double Dragon IV. Characters from the franchise have made cameo appearances elsewhere however, with the most recent being Marian's playable appearance in 2022's River City Girls 2.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will launch this summer for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Dammit, this art style is horrible. Can't they find someone who can do real justice for DD. Just make it like the NES DD2 style pixels.

I'm not really liking the big head mode graphics style. I think they should at least be trying to have graphics as good as the arcade original. The arcade is where I first played Double Dragon. It didn't look like this. This graphically looks wrong. Heck the nes Double Dragon art style looked better than this. Why the big heads? What the heck are they doing? I think I'd just prefer go back and play the arcade original. They clearly don't know what to do with this franchise.
