Dredd Versus Death coming to PS2

Vivendi Universal has today announced that the first-person shooter Judge Dredd: Dredd Versus Death, which is currently in development at UK-based Rebellion, will be coming to the PS2 as well as the PC next year.

The game is based on the popular Judge Dredd comic strip that has appeared in 2000AD every week since 1977--in June 2000, the comic was purchased by Rebellion with a view to developing a number of games based on its characters.

In this game, players will assume the role of Judge Dredd as he patrols the sprawling metropolis that is Mega-City One, dealing out justice to all manner of futuristic criminals. The storyline created specifically for the game will feature the full cast of characters from the Judge Dredd stories and, we're assured, will in no way interfere with the continuity of events in the comic.

"Judge Dredd has always been an obvious choice as a video game license, but no one has ever managed to put across the atmosphere and awesome visual scale of the comics in a game before," said Jason Kingsley, CEO and creative director of Rebellion. "Now a combination of our powerful Asura engine and our love for the character will enable us to put out the Judge Dredd game that gamers and comics fans have been demanding for so many years."
