DS Burnout Legends crashes into stores
Pint-sized compilation culled from first three Burnout games peels out at retail; DS owners get new outlet for road rage.
The rubber is finally hitting the road for Electronic Arts' Burnout series debut on the Nintendo DS. A sort of compilation of the first three console Burnout games, Legends takes some of the series' popular modes and shrinks them down for Nintendo's handheld.
Among the previous modes given more life on the go are Burnout 3: Takedown's crash mode, Burnout 2's pursuit mode, and the standard race, time-attack, and multiplayer modes (now with wireless connectivity). Legends features nine gameplay modes in all, along with some new tweaks designed specifically for the DS.
The game uses the DS touch screen as a way for players to put "aftertouch" on their wrecks, directing their crippled and battered vehicle into the paths of other racers. When it's not busy showing players the petty vindictiveness inherent in their souls, the touch screen displays a handy map of the current course.
Burnout Legends is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and older, and retails for $34.99. A PSP edition is also available for $49.99.
