No Caption ProvidedNintendo's DSi was originally launched back in October 2008. A redesign of the wildly successful DS Lite, it featured a slimmer body and bigger screens as well as dual-cameras, an SD Card slot, and MP3 playback support. It launched in Japan last November, and was an immediate success.

Since then, Nintendo US and Europe remained coy about release dates for their territories. The former market's release was officially confirmed yesterday as April 5, with a $169.99 (£119) price point. When contacted by GameSpot UK for a local release date yesterday, Nintendo UK declined to comment on an equivalent announcement for British fans.

Less than 24 hours later, Nintendo has officially dated the DSI for Europe as April 3--two days ahead of its US release. Nintendo hasn't set a firm retail price, however, leaving it up to the discretion of retailers to set the final selling price. Several high street chains have already started taking pre-orders including HMV, pegging the price at £146.80 in both white and black versions--the two colours that will be available in the UK. The console is also selling for £149.99 on Game's Web site.

Nintendo Australia has also announced that the DSi will be making its way Down Under one day earlier than Europe, launching on April 2 for A$299.95 in black and white variants.

I will not replace my DS with a DSi. As I said earlier, I invite *everyone* NOT to buy a DSi (independently of region etc) in order to prove Nintendo wrong and push them not to let developer studios specialize games for that new console. Hopefully Nintendo end up understanding how futile DSi is, and give us something more solid. (If only they had included a dual-touch screen, a head tracking mechanism, I mean just something new.)

It's probably being released this early so they can focus on its sales and if it's not living up to it's expectations they will chuck in a free game or reduce the price near the end of the year as that's when the games start flying off the shelves.

crazy price, would like to know what this actually costs to makte. like $30? it should at least be cheaper than the PSP. sub £100 would be more appropriate but even then seems a lot. like most others say you can get a next gen console for not much more.

Nintendo are so weird. *They said that the DSi would be released well into 2009 and suddenly it's about to be released before halfway through the year. *Gamespot asked Nintendo about the Europe release date, they wouldn't say anything and then suddenly in less than a day, the release date is announced. (It's in this article) Although their a little odd, it isn't the 'bad' type of weird.

I thought the main advtange of the DSi over the DS was for Nintendo's benefit... that R4 carts won't work with the new DSi

I don't see the point to be honest because it only has a bigger screen really because you can get a DSTT which plays video's, MP3'S and has a Micro SD card slot but the bigger screens may make it worse as the graphics for DS ain't that great being fair and all. Iwon't be upgrading I'll stick with my Normal DS Lite!!!

The advantages of the DSi over the DS lite are not so obvious as far as games are concerned so I would suggest to wait and see what comes out before swapping your ds.

OH YES! APRIL! STILL CAN'T WAIT CUZ IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME! THE UPGRADES SINCE THE LITE ARE WELL WORTH IT AND ALL OF IT'S ASPECTS SUCH AS NEW FEATURES AND REMAINING ALL SEEM TO WORK AMAZINGLY WELL! SO HATERS CAN F-OFF! Plus a remake of the best selling console in the world can't really be bad now can it? This should be yet another superb console from Nintendo. Ah Ninty you really are the masters of gaming despite the minor lack of 'hardcore' last year.

I don't think many peopel will buy the DS Lite because it doesn't have the GBA slot anymore to play your favourite GBA game and some people will abit annoyed if they can't play Guitar Hero on the DS Lite.
