E3 2017: Mario/Rabbids Crossover XCOM-Style Game Confirmed With First Trailer

After all the leaks, Ubisoft today announced a Mario/Rabbids crossover game called Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. It's a XCOM-style tactical adventure game for Nintendo Switch with enough depth for hardcore tactical game fans, according to Ubisoft.

Ubisoft met with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto in 2014 and showed him a prototype for a new Rabbids game featuring Mario. Miyamoto apparently loved it, and the Ubisoft development team grew in size and made a full game.

Kingdom Battle is set in the Mushroom Kingdom. The Rabbids got warped there by accident, after their own efforts to travel through time did not go as planned. Of course. In terms of gameplay, there are two main phases, the main one being combat. It's the core of the game, and it'll have enough depth to please fans of tactical games, Ubisoft says. The other phase is exploration, featuring puzzle-solving and more.

You can watch the announcement trailer in the embed above. Grant Kirkhope, who did the music for classic Nintendo games GoldenEye and Banjo-Kazooie, composed the music for Kingdom Battle.
