E3 2017: New Metro Game, Exodus, Confirmed For PS4/Xbox One/PC

Metro is back.

Update: Deep Silver has confirmed that Metro: Exodus will also launch on PS4 in 2018. The publisher shared some more details on the game. Like the previous Metro, Exodus stars Artyom, who is fleeing the ruins of the Moscow Metro with a band of survivors. Deep Silver says the game will be a "sandbox survival experience," with players exploring large, non-linear levels in a story that spans an entire year.

Now Playing: E3 2017: Metro Exodus Announce Gameplay Trailer

During Microsoft's E3 press conference today, the company announced a new title in the Metro series--Metro: Exodus. The title is coming to both Xbox One and PC in 2018. It's currently unclear if it will also come to PlayStation 4, but unlike many other games at the briefing, there was no reference to it being an Xbox exclusive.

For the first time in the Metro series, Exodus will feature an open world. The footage released during the conference shows the player-character moving through a collapsed tunnel filled with skeletons before emerging into the open world and fighting a mutated rat creature using explosive crossbow bolts.

The most recent game in the Metro series is 2013's Metro: Last Light. A website listing last year suggested a new Metro game would be out in 2017, but publisher Deep Silver later claimed this was just a mistake. Metro author Dmitry Glukhovsky later suggested that a new game could be in the works, but there had been no official word on that happening, until now.

Elsewhere in today's conference, Microsoft unveiled its Project Scorpio as Xbox One X. The console will launch November 7, and you can see what it looks like here. Metro: Exodus will feature enhancements on Xbox One X, which will let you play the game in 4K and HDR.

This is why I love Metro, graphically intense and immersive as hell. I'm mainly an RPG gamer and I find shooters very repetitive, just the same run around shooting others.

Metro are FPS I actually enjoy and a must play for me. I played the others on PC and only recently got a PS4. Uncertain how it will play on console but that would be best as to play on PC I would need a new GFX card. Shooters are a genre where I actually prefer PC to console, but that may simply be habits.

I knew this was going to be multiplat. As good as it looked running on X, I'm surprised MS didn't buy exclusive rights. I think that was a bad move because out of all the games they showed, this one took my breath away. Anthem (blue cross/blue shield lol) was second and then Ashen.

@louixiii: Microsoft has given themselves a bad rep by screwing over 3rd party developers and the 3rd party exclusives seem to be flopping. They probably didn't want to sell exclusivity rights at the cost of losing PS4.

@gamingdevil800: Eaxctly. It's too many PS4 owners out there. Any company would be insane not to make a PS4 version at this point...sad but true

This looked amazing at the conference. I thought from the way the way it was presented it was going to be PC/xbox exclusive so I'm glad that's not the case.

Trailer looked stunning, but just like previous Metro games I just find them too linear, and this game looks more of that. Very cinematic shooting, and it's not really what I like in games. But I'll give credit where it's due, game might just be the best looking thing I've seen from e3 thus far.

@xhawk27: Wow... Guess the PS4 had a ton of console exclusives if you're going by native resolution.

@gamingdevil800: They weren't even exclusives... That word was used way too often for games that aren't Xbox exclusive... Not sure how they got away with it... I'm sure it pissed off a lot of developers.

@Klop_Job: I hate when they do that. they left up in the air and didn't clarify if is exclusive, time exclusive or is coming for multiple consoles. If I have to guess it will be for PS4 & Xbox and the Switch as usual left out of the party with no version for them.

@angrycreep: They did and it was very clear.

When they showed an exclusive they said exclusive at the beginning, on Metro they said "world premiere" not exclusive.. pretty clear right?
