E3 2017: Xbox One S Price Cut Announced, Starts Tomorrow

Microsoft follows Sony and announces its own E3 week price cut.

Microsoft is cutting the price of the Xbox One S, though it might not be a permanent price drop. Starting on June 11, the day of the Xbox E3 briefing, Microsoft will offer the console for only $250. That's a price drop of $50, and it brings the system in line with the PS4 Slim's temporary price cut. It remains to be seen if the Xbox One S price drop is only for a limited time.

The Xbox E3 2017 briefing is expected to bring news on Project Scorpio, including its official name, price, and release date. We're also expecting to hear about new games and see more footage of already-announced titles.

The briefing kicks off at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET on June 11. GameSpot will host a livestream and liveblog for the event, and we'll also have all the news broken out as it happens.

Microsoft's E3 briefing will run for 97 minutes, which is longer than usual. Here's a roundup of the biggest Xbox games we hope to see at the show. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

"Microsoft cuts Xbox One S price to $199 ahead of Project Scorpio unveiling"

Now this makes more sense. Starting June 11th... Even the official MS store has them bundled for $249 right now. At that price it's tempting to get just for several exclusives I've missed throughout the 360 and One years.

Was at a Gamestop yesterday, the Minecraft edition is $249, with the Battlefield edition at $299. Is the article possibly be referring to the 1TB models?

If you own an Xbox One and you don't intend to cough up for Scorpio, you should still buy an Xbox One S. This is a totally worthwhile upgrade and should be the default base level purchase for new buyers. You couldn't pay me to go back the original Xbox One. The removal of controller connectivity bullshit alone made the upgrade worthwhile. The network seems to work slightly better as well, and HDR really helps out with those darker atmospheric games. 4K HDR enabled Blu Ray and Netflix is just better. One of the biggest things though is Microsoft finally doing away with the power brick after all these years and in a smaller console to boot.

Xbox one S - two thumbs up.

I think this press release is a few months too late.

@Andrew_is_basic: it's just gamespot.

You can't expect people who hate Microsoft to know what's up with its products.

They hardly ever say anything positive about Microsoft everything they do say always comes from other sources.

There is a reason why Microsoft GA e gamespot the cold shoulder when it came to Scorpio. They completely cut them out of the loop.

I know they are supposed to be professional but I think they down play Microsoft in order to get more traffic on the website.

Well maybe the it'll change after scorpio.

When ps4 pro games begin to get out shined the xbots will go and make fun of the ps4 ponies.

Negatively against ps4 will keep this vicious cycle going. No one will ever win the console war until WW3 comes and the economy goes down the drain and no one makes games any more.

WW3 might be the end of Sony.

Microsoft will probably be taken over by our elite and the industrial military complex. They'll survive and make games once the world recovers.

@joshrmeyer: yeah it has been - but it's always been "sales" and "promotions"; it's effectively a $250 console now, but just not at the official MSRP level

@xantufrog: Kinda silly, but I guess that's how retail works. It almost seems as bad sales tactics to announce it drop to $250, when it's been that price or cheaper for awhile. I guess we can expect to see some $200 bundles soon.

@reavis86: I was thinking $199 too... I'm sure you'll find it for that price on sales at least.

I'm in Tennessee neighbor ;) Must be cheaper in these southern states.

@DeadPhoenix86: Apparently lol... Could of sworn there was an article not too long ago about a price drop also and I thought the same thing. If people really think Scorpio will be $399, they will need to drop it lower than $249... Same 4k player, same games, and a huge increase in power.
