E3 2019: New Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Games Are The Final Ones

All good things must end.

The Xbox One's backwards compatibility program has been very popular since it was announced back at E3 2015, and since then, Microsoft has released 600 titles into the catalog. Microsoft is finished adding more titles to the library, however, as the company confirmed at E3 2019 that it is now focused on backwards compatibility for the Xbox Scarlett platform.

"After this week, we have no plans to add additional Original Xbox or Xbox 360 titles to the catalog on Xbox One, but we're excited to continue our work on Xbox compatibility across platforms and devices, which remains a top priority," Microsoft said in a blog post.

Now Playing: New Xbox At E3: Everything We Learned About Scarlett

Xbox Scarlett will support four generations of Xbox games, spanning Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Scarlett. This is no small effort, and Microsoft's backwards compatibility team is now dedicating itself toward this mission instead of bringing more titles to the Xbox One backwards compatibility library.

Xbox One backwards compatibility is going out with a bang. Eight OG Xbox titles were added to the catalog today, including Armed and Dangerous, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell Double Agent, and Unreal Championship 2, The Liandri Conflict.

There are a number of additions to the Xbox 360 catalog, too, including Far Cry Classic, Syndicate, and Skate, while Too Human is added as well and it's free for everyone.

  • Asura's Wrath
  • Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
  • Enchanted Arms
  • Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
  • Far Cry Classic
  • Far Cry Instincts Predator
  • Infinite Undiscovery
  • Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
  • Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands
  • Skate
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
  • Syndicate
  • Too Human
  • Unreal Tournament III

Additionally, eight of Rare's classic games in the Xbox One backwards compatibility program have received Xbox One X enhancements, including Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Viva Pinata.

No COR Assault on Dark Athena, No Street Fighter 3rd Strike Online, Not even the GTA Double Pack which to this day contains the best versions of those games.

Massive disappointment. I mean, Spencer was just bullshitting about the Xbox ecosystem and then they make this move.

@rxvitaminr: It will continue on the Next Xbox. But they're ending it for the Xbox One.

@shadowwarrior4: its definitely on there if you do a game store search. None of the BC games are downloadable/buyable. They all say redeem code. Now the ones I already owned digitally showed up on my games list. Just can't get any of the others. Shrug
