E3 2020: All The Game Companies Attending The Industry Event (So Far)

Here's every company coming to the LA Convention Center in June.

E3 2020 is coming, and game publishers are preparing to show their wares at the annual event. This year promises to continue a shift that began years ago, as PlayStation is skipping the event again and host Geoff Keighley will not be producing the E3 Coliseum. The spread of the coronavirus, also called COVID-19, and the subsequent state of emergency declared in Los Angeles have also called the likelihood of E3 2020 even happening into question. Earlier in the month, iam8bit, the creative directors of E3 dropped out. [Update: E3 2020 will not take place, as the ESA has canceled the event because of concerns regarding the coronavirus.]

Even with the changes and health scares, the ESA is still determined to make E3 2020 happen. The show will begin on Tuesday, June 9, and as usual several companies will be hosting their own press conferences and special presentations. We may also see the return of E3-adjacent events like EA Play. Prior years have also hosted a specialized PC Gaming Show to complement the console and publisher press conferences.

@playstationzone: there's always winners idk what you are talking about. whether there is an actual award (never remember there actually being one) or whether we ourselves think who was the winner and who lost or didn't do well for their presentation, there's will always be the question of who one? So idk what im suppposed to be moving on from when its not only me who picks who they think won...

@sandstormmcd: I am gonna agree with the no one wins guy, it is like winning the bachelor or dancing with the stars, you see smiling faces but soul crushing humiliation behind the eyes.

At first there was the spectacle of E3 in the 90s and 00's, then console wars with set players offered some kind of commentary as to the waning relevance of E3. But here we are in a new gen console release and all three are either phoning it in or skipping it all together. When Geoff Keighley passes it by, as well as no commitment from heads of platforms like Spencer, Layden, or Furukawa is a tale tell sign of waning interest.

And can we even call a "winner", anymore as all three are not really attending - while Nintendo had the best showing other platforms, publishers choose to hold their pressers later in the year. Even the most popular games at E3 last year 2019 were FF7 remake, Cyberpunk, and avengers. So .... I guess if you want to single out one platform over another by default because the other teams only sent their mascots... then hey a win is a win.

FYI i went to E3 99' when the public was not really allowed in, though you could visit by invitation and or pity pre E3 days and or post E3 days after journalists and vendors/buyers. This was when it was back in L.A. and still on guard from some school shootings, including Columbine. It was when you had to shuttle back to your hotel with bags of 'swag', and when booth girls were apologetically pre- 'me to'. Dreamcast, PS2, gamecube, xbox all had rumors and rumblings - with curtains and room with huge 'do not enter- press only' signs. Knowing that was where the computers were, that had the demos and what must be glorious secrets.

Now it is barely what it was once was.
