EA again in running for Consumerist's Worst Company In America title

FIFA and Battlefield publisher the only game company in consumer affairs blog's annual tournament.

Electronic Arts has again been included in The Consumerist's "Worst Company In America" annual community-voted tournament. Participants were chosen by reader nominations, which were then culled to 32 companies.

No Caption Provided

The consumer affairs blog has EA in the first round squaring off against ABInBev, the multinational beverage company behind major beer brands like Corona, Stella Artois, and Budweiser, among others.

EA is the only game-specific company appearing in the bracket. Other companies in the running for 2013 Worst Company In America include Apple, Ticketmaster, Wal-Mart, and Bank of America.

If EA comes out on top in this year's tournament, it will be a repeat victory for the company. The Consumerist named EA the 2012 Worst Company In America, knocking out Bank of America in the final round to take home the "Golden Poo" award.

EA CEO John Riccitiello resigned this week, explaining that "EA's shareholders and employees expect better and I am accountable for the miss" in financial guidance. This came after a SimCity launch marred by server woes but also 1.1 million in total sales.

The fact EA is even in the running (and won last year) is a scathing indictment of the American education system.

Sure EA sucks but you kids really need to get your priorities straight if you still think it's the worst company in America. Bank of America says hi.

Funny how the "worst" companies are also the most successful BECAUSE of consumerists.

Forget all the atrocities committed by Bank Of America....the Really hated companies are the ones that control our entertainment.

This is funny. Just think about the additives some companies use in their food products. EA could be the worst "game" company but not the worst company in america.

@shadow131990 I wish they would take all the additives out so nothing could be preserved for more than a few hours and it would spoil.

@USAPATRIOT21 @shadow131990 it's just an example, be sure that they put more than they should also enhancing taste and the look of the food(it's a pretty obvious thing to see/taste).It's poison! But that's not the idea!

Great new's. I wonder when they will go bankrupt... I always pirate they're games so i never wasted any money on their games + DLC's... Wish Bioware would become independent again...

This is what you get for releasing constant buggy piles of crap, DESTROYING some of the best video game IPs ever, DESTROYING your own sequels, constantly spouting crap about how you were being fair and looking after your customers, and attempting to force DRM, pay-to-win, and excessive DLC down out throats. You tried to cater to the masses to earn more money, sacrificing art, integrity, and game quality in the process, and in the end all you did was kill yourselves.

The people have spoken. More than once. Here in the games industry, we don't take kindly to your type.

I remember Madden '91 football for the Sega Genesis. Of course it wasn't called '91' because it was their first one BUT I LOVED Electronic Arts. They were my favorite studio. Their games were awesome in my opinion. 22+ years later and everything is upside down from my perspective. I haven't been more angry and frustrated with ANY company in the consumer marketplace. Not going to 'preach to the choir' here but yeah....what a nose dive.

I'll vote for them but I don't think it will change their attitude as long as we consumers show our anger by not buying their products. SimCity is a good example. Even though it was a broken game at the beginning, it still managed to sell over a 1 million copies. I think we players are the source of the problem.

@hasancakir EA needs a true boycott of their products for them to change their attitude in regard to new games they publish. Look at BF3, for example. I truly didn't know that there was no LAN functionality before I bought it for the PC. Nor did I know you had to be online just to play the single player campaign. Why would I have researched it beforehand when based on previous games in the franchise, this wasn't an issue?

Gamers will not organize to commit to a true boycott and THAT'S the problem. Nothing will ever change if they don't take a stand. We are the customers. Period.
