EA Doesn't Plan To Slow Down Its Game Releases

"Never too much product."

Electronic Arts is one of the biggest and best-known video game publishers in the world, with numerous projects in the works at the same time. Don't expect the company to slow down its release schedule, however; the publisher is sticking with what works. During a recent earnings briefing Q&A, an analyst asked if EA has the opportunity to space out its non-sports games (titles like Madden and FIFA are released every year), and EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said no way.

"Never too much product," he said with what sounded like a laugh (via SeekingAlpha). "I think we like our regular cadence. I think we've found a good cadence obviously with Battlefield and with Star Wars Battlefront. We're trying to make sure that we're leveraging our relationship with Disney on the Star Wars property, so aligning those where possible with their theatrical release schedules. So right now, our plan is not to change our cadence schedule."

Jorgensen added that it's too early to talk about the release schedule for BioWare's new IP Anthem or any projects from Motive Studios. Right now, EA is feeling "pretty comfortable" as it relates to its release schedule and its pipeline of in-development games.

"We believe it creates a nice top line growth that's all organic from our teams, and we're very focused on making sure that it's very profitable along the way," he said. "So we want to continue to drive both the top line and the bottom line through new IP, existing IP, new live services, and margin expansion across all of those."

EA's next big shooter game is Star Wars: Battlefront II, which comes out in November. Before that, EA will launch the latest instalments in the juggernaut FIFA and Madden franchises.

If they can keep pumping out games why not? Better then some of these companies like Rockstar that takes 5-6 years to put a game out.

Patently, provably wrong. TF2 vs BF1 -- both worthy AAA titles -- absolutely competed for player hours, excitement, engagement, and dollars.

Sure. EA can do this because all the non-gamers (minus the gamers who buy their overhyped shit) who buy their shit do so because it has Tom Brady or some other jackass on the cover. Oh, and also because of monopolistic and unethical business practices....

Why should they? If folks are naive enough to buy these copy/paste sports games and spend 60 bucks for a roster, they'll keep doing it.

Really? Say that to Dead Space and, specially, to Dante's Inferno. So many games on these franchises, right? EA on the wrong track again.

@jamesbr27: Yeah I've been replaying Dantes Inferno the past couple of days. Such a great game too bad it came out at the same time as Modern Warfare 2. DI is such an underrated gem. We just don't see many ambitious games anymore. The market is just flooded with cheap cash grabs. Especially from EA and Activision.

A Dead Space game would be nice, something like 2 please, DS3 was awful. Maybe a new protagonist or an Isaac Clark clone? Anything that allows you to kinda start fresh without rebooting.

@inebriantia: But, um, THE PLOT. They'd pretty much have to reboot or go prequel.

@Pyrosa: A reboot would be fine. Those games had good atmosphere and fun gameplay, and they managed to have an intriguing story (even if the ending was bad), but I'd gladly start the story over from scratch if it meant getting some new Dead Space games.

@Pyrosa: No.. after the credits, it's pretty much shown Isaac is still alive. That point alone allows for more games. There's more markers out there, a lot more to discover. If you take the names of all the chapters they spell the brother moons awake.

@inebriantia: Blake Jorgensen said: "We believe it creates a nice top line growth that's all organic from our teams, and we're very focused on making sure that it's very profitable along the way,"

A single player game like DS2 doesn't fit into the "profitable" part EA is looking for. EA wants online interaction and microtransactions. Gamers who play on-line games are more likely to buy the games new (at their highest prices) and continue to invest more money into the game. If you don't have the online component the game can be played indefinitely and cheap games can wait until the cost of new games fall or just buy it used. Once EA shuts the server down the game is useless.

@Suaron_x: Yeah, I get that, and I don't blame EA for wanting to make as much money as possible. Dead Space is a niche title, that's why they tried to casualize DS3.

I just wish they'd make just a few of thier old series. I wouldn't mind if they even tacked on a online mode if it meant I got a new single player Dead Space campaign. I can compromise..

@inebriantia: Honestly, I didn't really feel like it was all that much different from DS2. The added co-op, but it didn't mess up the single player the way Resident Evil's did, and they added weapon crafting, which I felt like was a smart, fun addition. Beyond that, DS3 just felt like more Dead Space, especially that first chapter when you're on the derelict fleet. Really I think the whole game should have been set there, in the wreckage field.

@Mogan: Ppl hated how the second half got so linear, the human enemies, the weapon crafting made you way too overpowered, they took the horror feel away to where it became enter room, kill wave of enemies, repeat. There was no sense of mystery, suspense, horror etc, adding Co op also took away the sense of being alone in space..

Visceral admitted they made the changes to casualize it on purpose to bring in a broader audience bc horror was too niche for the cost of development.

@walidras: how is it a good deal when 90% of their games either suck or are mediocre or outright flop cus they fracked up that hard???

Mass Erect Andromeda, Dragon Aged 2, Buttfield Hardline, Star Wars Buttfront.....<the most beautiful pile of dung ever.....and I mean that, game looked pretty but was so shallow it was sad....and this it just a little of that vaunted "EA value" you're getting.....the bar for excellence is continually being eroded......

@darthrevenx: $5/mo is pretty cheap, actually. Granted, that assumes that the player is enjoying $5/mo worth of the gameplay...
