Quite literally free to play.

EA is giving away free copies of Plants vs. Zombies on Origin throughout May.

It's all part of Origin's "On the House" promotion, which offers Origin users the odd freebie. Last month EA offered up free downloads of the original Dead Space, which was (and still is) an excellent game.

"We're gamers, too," said EA last month as it announced the scheme. "We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home...and besides, who doesn't like free stuff?"

People who are hating on EA should really shut up. EA now control 50% of the digital download market.

Dead Space is obviously a much better game, but PvZ is a fun distraction. EA gave it out for free as a DRM-free install sometime over the past year. I might add it to my Origin account just for the heck of it...

Browsing the Origin store, it's hard to find many games at all. Curious how long they can keep up with giving out free games before dipping into Madden 2005-like territory.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Well afaik they haven't committed to any kind of schedule, like monthly or anything. So, I guess it might just go into limbo :).

I don't feel like logging into Origin right now. Maybe I'll do it sometime before the end of the month if I don't forget about it. I already have it on steam so no rush.

It's not free - you have to use Origin. That provides negative value.

Hey, free is free.

I was able to snag Dead Space, Dead Space 3, and now PvZ all 'cause I bought Sim City (first week) and signed up for Orgin (not like I had a choice).

Origin made a humble bundle last year which was one of the best I've bought. It included like 10 games.

Why would I need it on PC? It's much more convenient for mobile devices.

Lol then miss out. I hate the people that think Origin is some kind of demonic virus just because it's popular to hate EA. Then they miss out on a ton of awesome deals and free games and then complain they don't do anything for gamers.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Not sure what can be called awesome but there have been some good deals, although not always intended by EA.

There have been a few times where the site messed up and people scored a bunch of free games, mostly older stuff but decent games not ancient garbage. I believe in all cases EA has never revoked any of those games as well. I do recall one where EA acknowledged the error and specifically stated they would not revoke anything.

Better than nothing. Oh well, I'll enjoy my run-through again, it was probably my favorite game last gen. If you don't like EA's business models then don't spend your money on them, but heck, if a game is free then I'll grab it. I don't fall for their microtransactions and stuff, but if they're giving away free content and games, then I'll pick them up.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's popular to hate them because they earned it. There's no way I'll ever let them be my gaming platform. They inconvenience me any chance they get, so they can stuff their free crappy games.
