EA Gothenburg focusing on Frostbite 2

Publisher's second Swedish studio dedicated to "a new generation of games" using DICE's Battlefield 3 game engine.

EA's Frostbite 2 game engine may have been built for Battlefield 3, but it's turning up in all sorts of games. As part of the 2012 Game Developers Conference today, EA announced plans to found a new studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, with an eye toward creating even more titles using the powerful game development toolkit.

The Battlefield 3 game engine is turning up in all sorts of games.
The Battlefield 3 game engine is turning up in all sorts of games.

The publisher offered scant few details on what the new Swedish studio would look like, aside from stating that developers would be working on "a new generation of games" using Frostbite 2. EA will be holding a meet-and-greet in San Francisco on Wednesday for prospective employees, with additional details available through the company's jobs site.

Job applicants will be informed of the franchise and genre of EA Gothenburg's project after signing a non-disclosure agreement.

Beyond Battlefield 3, the Frostbite 2 engine has been seen in Need for Speed: The Run. EA is also using it to build Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Command & Conquer: Generals 2. Other rumored applications include Army of Four and Dragon Age III.

EA Gothenburg is the publisher's second studio in Sweden, behind the Stockholm-based EA DICE.

Swedish businesses are moving out of Sweden cause of the high taxes, and for some reason EA is moving in. Don't get me wrong, I love that, it would just be interesting to know why. They would make a whole lot more money if they would have the studios in America and ship the Swedes ;)

Now if only they would start working on "Reliable, scalable network server infrastructure version 1" they'd be making progress.

Frostbite destructibility + Sandbox gameplay + whole new franchise = Very happy gamers. Doubt this will happen any time soon though. I want to see a game where you can rise up from nothing, but end up piloting Mech suites and laying waste to entire buildings.

Use the Frostbite2 engine to bring back the RTS series LOTRBFME. They could use this for games like Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2 with great success. Thye will do C&C2 first, but then they should start looking into this. :)

@Ladiesman17 easy to recall how both EA and DICE starting on PC and got lost with console markets, finaly now we can hope to expect new things with the quality we've been waiting for, my first shot is on C&C Generals 2.

It's because of Origin, now EA pushes more PC-centric titles for their new platform, and with the success of Battlefield 3, now DICE become a main developer for EA, DICE is originally PC-Based Developer, they sure not gonna holding-back the technology anymore, and it looks like the wind gonna leads to the PC Games. .......................................................................................................... It started small but fires gonna burn fast  and now we can wait other EA Games with all its glory on the PC..

I loved the animations and stuff, the illumination and the overall graphics were pretty too, I just think they have to revise the water, it's really bad, adding a collision system, transparency, reflex... The basics, though if they added a Dx11 water preset (like the one on Crysis 2) it would be awesome. Good thing they aren't holding back because of the consoles, and giving some love to us PC gamers!

Great engine. In my opinion, it's highlight is the destructibility feature. FPS games need to capitalize in this realistic feature.

Battefield 3 has a good engine but needs 'oil' aka patching up minor but annoying issues. Patch BF3 and release a DLC please.
