EA Names New Executives In Big Shuffle

More executives join, others play musical chairs.

EA has made some big changes to its executive team, shuffling several of its highest executives into new roles or even newly created ones. The announcement from CEO Andrew Wilson outlines the various personnel changes.

Patrick Soderlund will become Chief Design Officer, moving up from his role at Worldwide Studios. Laura Miele will become Chief Studios Officer, leading EA Worldwide Studios. Blake Jorgensen will hold a dual role as both Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Other role changes include Chris Bruzzo leading a new internal marketing and analytics organization, and Matt Bilbey will become Executive Vice President of Strategic Growth.

Now Playing: Revisiting Battlefront 2: New Progression Update

"Change in the gaming industry is accelerating, with more disruption expected in the next 5 years than the last 45," Wilson said. "We must position ourselves for continued transformation and leadership. ... I'm a big believer in having the courage to change, especially in service of our players and our future. To that end, we have aligned on several strategic organizational changes that will sharpen focus on the creative core of EA, drive precision in our operations, and define clear leadership for our growth initiatives."

This all comes in the wake of EA underperforming with Star Wars: Battlefront 2, likely due in part to the bad press and reputation that came with its microtransactions structure. Jorgensen said at the time that microtransactions would be coming back, but they returned in a different form instead. That followed a tepid reception for Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem being delayed into 2019. It seems the company has had some trouble finding its footing lately, which makes Wilson's comments about changing with the times that much more apt.

Just make sure you fired all the guys and gals that green-lighted the pay to win loot boxes. Yeah they may get you money but in the long run they are bad for your image which obviously you found out the hard way hurts sales and peoples perception about your games. Not to mention the dumb founded rhetoric about single player games.

You need a person that understands a good game must be made first before eye gouging the fanbase for money. Then ensure when you go with the plan to make huge profits, that it is done the right way and doesn't screw over the consumer. Because in gaming the consumer and great game are the most important things. You take care of those two aspects. Then watch and reap the rewards. Maybe after consecutive 10/10 games like RockstarGames has done with GTA, then maybe you can dick the consumer over with lavish game altering micros. Maybe

I'm so disenfranchised with EA at this point I'm not even excited for Anthem. The game looked awesome and as soon as the EA logo came up I thought, "well, if anyone will screw it up it's EA"

A company so out of it they say gamers don't want single player games. Meanwhile, in real life universally praised GOW comes out this week and people are still enjoying BOTW as game of the year.

EA has been hitting it out of the park lately for making me completely disinterested in their games and that's in thanks to Andrew Wilson pushing lootboxes in all their games. I used to care about The Sims, Need for Speed and Battlefield. Now, I only care about Battlefield and I would not be surprised if they mess the new one up like they did with Battlefront 2. They exist to make money as a company, I get that, but their pure greed has become blatantly obvious this last year. The last game I bought from them was BF1 and while it was a good game, it's probably one of the weakest Battlefield games. Here's hoping DICE can get back on track this year.

"I'm a big believer in having the courage to change,"

This must be a typo, he meant "charge"

"We must position ourselves for continued transformation and leadership..."

That's right. Continue the transformation of more blood-sucking (money-sucking) vampires.

Annoy the playerbase, and EA's solution is to add more overpaid do nothing executives.

Changing with the times.... does that mean actually admitting story driven campaign games made by hard working talented studios do extremely well vs telling the public those games are dead and only brain-dead online multi player maps sell?

EA is nothing but a corporation. Corporations don't produce works of art aka video games because once you corporatize the creative process then only crap is churned out. EA dosn't make games they make scams disguised as entertainment. DO NOT BUY EA.

EA's biggest problem is itself.

It's not a games company anymore, it's a greedy corporation run by corporate suits who happen to sell video games. They gobble up what works (talented studios), but because the talent never sticks around after the honeymoon phase, the projects and teams are left in the hands of those corporate suits who don't have the creative talent and vision to continue running the studios they spent millions (and billions) to acquire.

I'm not sure when, if ever, EA will realize that their own corporate structure is what's destroying them. They put profit in front of the fans and gamers, they burn bridges with their community over loot boxes, shutting down studios and ruining beloved franchises.

If you look at how Blizzard runs their business, sure, they are out to make money (ex. Overwatch loots boxes), but what they do is listen to their fans, they hold events for them, they constantly communicate with them, if the fans want something, Blizzard bends over backwards to "try" and make them happy. They don't skew their games with pay-to-win features, they just offer, fun and exciting cosmetic items. Blizzard is also a corporately own company, but they still have GAMERS in charge of the studio. Mike Morhaime is a gamer and a gamer maker. While's he's shifted gears in the past, as the CEO of Blizzard, he's still a gamer at heart. EA just doesn't have that at its core, they just have corporate money makers making bad decisions because they truly don't understand their audience anymore.

Reshuffling their roster of suit-wearing money grubbers isn't going to fix the structure in which they operate. You need a corporate executive purge and place someone who is a gamer at heart and a leader who can make decisions based on the community AND financial needs.

RANT OVER.

@mwewerka: I don't think they ever get destroyed. They have FIFA which has saved their ass for the last decade.(Even the ultimate team of that makes them enough money for staying afloat )

Meet the new sleaze, same as the old sleaze. They should pick their salary via lootbox.

@SCImonTemplar: The number doesn't matter, they'll all find a way to screw it up anyway.
