The next console Medal of Honor will put an espionage spin on the WWII series.

As part of its earnings announcement yesterday, Electronic Arts revealed that it is working on a new Medal of Honor game for consoles. At the time, the title was referred to only as "Medal of Honor 4," and no mention was made of which consoles it would be released for.

Today EA officially announced the game. Titled Medal of Honor: Dogs of War, the game will be released for the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2 next spring. However, unlike previous Medal of Honor games, Dogs of War "advances on the series by introducing players to a new way of playing," according to EA.

While EA's announcement did not elaborate on what this "new way" entails, it did provide some clues in the following description of the game's plot:

"Europe 1942. These are desperate hours for the Allied forces as the Nazi war machine rages across a devastated European landscape. With the British on the brink, Lt. William Holt of the OSS is sent on a secret mission by order of the President of the United States. On his own, or with his squad, Holt is pivotal in helping to turn the tide in four of the most crucial battles leading to victory in Europe."

GameSpot will have more details on Medal of Honor: Dogs of War as they become available.
