EA UFC 5 Is Out In October, First In Franchise To Use Frostbite
Visual upgrades and new fighting features await.
EA Sports UFC 5 is set to release on October 27. It will be the first game in the franchise to use the Frostbite engine and will feature an all-new Real Impact system.
The Real Impact system attempts to simulate the effects of taking blows over the course of a match. Your fighter's attributes will degrade as you take and deal hits. However, the system also includes visual upgrades. The game has a new particle system, rendering blood and sweat in reportedly hyper-realistic ways. Facial damage can be rendered in over 64,000 different combinations. With the aforementioned features, as well as strand-based hair, body sculpting and a new facial animation tool, EA promises the most realistic-looking UFC game yet.
Outside of the realms of grotesque splendor, several elements of the fighter have also been reworked. For example, suffering a notable injury will pause the fight and have a ringside doctor check up on your fighter. If you cannot prevent the injury from getting further damage, the doctor may stop the game. There are now a wider variety of strikes and hit reaction animations. Grappling has been reworked yet again, so there are no minigames and the animations that transistion into a grapple are faster.
The live-game elements have also gotten a makeover. Features like Fight Week and Fight Pick are tied to real-world UFC events. You can also pick up Alter Egos of fighters, offering new looks and abilities.
EA Sports UFC 5 will release on October 27 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Deluxe Edition will feature UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya on the cover. The Standard Edition will display UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. EA Play members can play early on October 24.
