Early Reviewers Say Terminator: Dark Fate Is The Best In The Series Since T2

What do the critics think of Dark Fate?

Terminator hasn't had the best run since Judgement Day. The last film in the franchise, 2015's Terminator Genisys was a commercial and critical flop; however, that didn't stop the franchise from producing a sixth movie. Series creator James Cameron and stars of the first movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, help ensure a new movie was greenlit, and it's headed to theaters in one week.

Terminator: Dark Fate is a direct sequel to Cameron's 1991 classic T2: Judgment Day, and is directed by Deadpool Tim Miller, with Cameron producing and overseeing the story. The film focuses on a new Terminator, Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna), who is trying to kill a woman called Dani (Natalia Reyes). Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor, with Mackenzie Davis playing Grace, a cybernetically enhanced soldier who must protect Dani. And of course, Schwarzenegger is back as the T-800, the Terminator from the original movies. Check out the trailer here, plus the first clip.

Now Playing: Gabriel Luna On Playing a Terminator in Terminator: Dark Fate | SDCC 2019

Terminator: Dark Fate has now now been screened for critics ahead of its November 1 release. There were also a series of surprise fan screenings at Alamo theaters across the US. Fans attended thinking they were about to watch T2 and some new footage from Dark Fate, but in fact got to enjoy the new movie, with a specially-recorded introduction by Schwarzenegger and Hamilton.

Opinion so far is positive, with many critics stating that the movie is easily the best in the series since T2. Admittedly, none of the previous three films were particularly well received, but comparisons to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and praise for both the action and the performances will get fans excited. Check back soon for GameSpot's review of the film, and in the meantime, here's what the critics are saying about Terminator: Dark Fate on Twitter:

Hmm I assume at some point they have to explain how Arnold is back as the same T-800 from T2. I mean he DID die and meltdown at the end of that movie. Unless he DIDN'T really die in that vat of molten steel.

James Cameron could take a dump in his pants, smear it in a camera lens and released it as is and it would still be better than anything that came out after T2.

Having said that, this is the first time i'm excited for a Terminator Movie since 1991.

I saw T1 and T2 in the theaters as a kid and I will be there, tomorrow. Pre-release show at 6pm. Can't wait.

What people expect anymore? Storywise none of it will ever make sense anymore and so on. Plus T2 had Arnold Prime and dawned some amazing special effects.

Genisys was ok considering that. Just like how the original Jurassic Park made everyone go OOOOOOH, but Jurassic World just didn't do much more, even if it was an ok movie.

Star Wars was kinda in lucky spot since VI was followed by VII in a series where the overarching plot seems to matter. Even if I don't expect much from IX, I still kind of am curious about how things will play out. With Dark Fate even if they make good story it's like "Yeah, but this is like the 4th alternate version" So at best I expect Dark Fate to be just a nice action ride.

Just remember that they were saying the same thing about Terminator Genisys right before it came and bombed at the box office.

@playstationzone: The funny thing is that Cameron said that Terminator Genisys was the best one since T2 right before that came out. Look at what happened to that box office bomb.

When I first heard that James Cameron was involved in Dark Fate, I was excited. Then I found out he wasn't the writer/director and my excitement level went down the toilet. The previews does not make me want to see it.

Critics love it which means there's a good chance audiences will hate it. The disconnect between critics and audiences is huge these days. It seems like critics only grade a movie these days based on how woke it is and not the film itself.

LOL... People's inability to diatinguish "hype media" from actual independent viewer reviews is becoming ridiculous.

"loved how the film features 3 female protagonists that all kick-ass"

"was surprised and happy to come out caring most about Natalia Reyes’ Dani & Mackenzie Davis’ Grace"

"Arnold is great & Linda rules, but Mackenzie Davis THROWS DOWN"

"Linda Hamilton’s return makes a BIG difference, Mackenzie Davis kicks all the ass, & Natalia Reyes is an excellent anchor."

"TERMINATOR’s thought of as Arnold’s franchise. DARK FATE makes it clear he wasn’t the key ingredient that made it work. It was Linda Hamilton. She’s incredible in this"

I think it is pretty clear where the reviewers stand in this, on top of probably being access media.

@PETERAKO: Man, I'd hate to think how people would have reacted if The Sarah Connor Chronicles had premiered in 2018 instead of 2008.

Sounds like textbook over praising for an okay movie after such a long stretch of bad ones. Tbh, T3 had some issues, but the ending was one of the best in movie history. I liked the action in T3 a lot as well. Salvation and Genesys can suck eggs, though.

@pharoe777: The only reason why people even remember that POS movie is because of Christian Bale's chimp out on the set.

@pharoe777: I actually agree, though it isn't really saying much. 3 was a colossal letdown and Genesys was an incomprehensible clusterf**k, while the worst you can say about Salvation is that it felt like a pilot movie for a "Skynet War" TV series that somehow got a theatrical budget.

Yeah, most of the praises are from people that have some pretty bad taste in movies. They've spouted the same drivel on awful crap movies that have been proven to be awful crap or spouted awful crap about well received movies by everyone that isn't a critic. Some of these people even going so far as to blame white men. So i'll take their opinions with a grain of salt...all the grains of salt.
