ECTS 2001: Sony Europe to publish PS2 version of Headhunter

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe shows off a brief video of Sega's Headhunter.

First shown at last year's ECTS, Headhunter is a Dreamcast game that puts you in the role of Jack Wade, a bounty hunter working for a government that he despises. Now the game is also coming to the PlayStation 2 and will be published in Europe by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

The game takes place in a futuristic California. Similar to Mad Max, the film that inspired the game, Headhunter's portrayal of the future is a bleak one, filled with rampant crime and corrupt government officials. The game's story is told via FMV clips designed to look like real news reports. Headhunter's story plays up the bounty hunter aspect, starting you out as an anonymous gun for hire. As you progress and get deeper into the world of bounty hunting, you'll get wrapped up in the game's storyline. You traverse much of the gameworld via motorcycle, but as you get closer to your destination, you'll ditch the bike, draw a weapon, and investigate on foot.

The Dreamcast version is scheduled to contain eight-player online motorcycle racing as well as downloads that unlock side quests and other bonus items. No word yet on how, if at all, the PlayStation 2 will implement these ideas.

No plans to publish Headhunter for the PS2 in the US have been announced at this time.
