Elden Ring Has Gone Gold, Will Take Around 30 Hours To Beat

The studio is now working on the day one patch and has revealed how long it will take to beat the game.

From Software has completed development on the long-awaited Elden Ring, with a "master" version being submitted for approval, the developer has confirmed. Work isn't completely done, though, as the developers are now working on a day one patch that will include updates and optimizations.

Elden Ring "going gold" was confirmed during the Taipei Game Show, where From Software also discussed Elden Ring's length. Producer Yasuhiro Kitao said play time will vary depending on a number of factors, but the main route should take players around 30 hours.

"This will differ significantly by player but in terms of targets set during development, the idea is that the main route should be able to be completed within around 30 hours," Kitao said. "The game as a whole is quite massive, and contains many dozens more hours worth of gameplay but if we are talking about the main route only, it shouldn't take much longer than that."

As for the day one patch, From Software didn't announce specifics about what's included apart from updates and optimizations based on feedback from the network test.

Elden Ring was originally slated to launch in January before being delayed to February 25. It will launch that day across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Author George R.R. Martin, who wrote the novels that got turned into Game of Thrones on HBO, wrote Elden Ring's backstory and mythology.

February 2022 is shaping up to be a huge month for new game releases. In addition to Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Sifu, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen are all on the way during the shortest month of the year.

Got HZD to play as well so for once I'd be ok if the games weren't too long. Both got a lot of side content for sure so its gonna be a good deal of playtime.

George Martin helped write the backstory and mythology 😂 yeah right, what did he write, a full page? He's notoriously lazy so he probably got a lot of cash for half an hour of work.

Still, despite that, I'm very much looking forward to this game.

@randallsilver: If he wrote a full page, that took at least a solid month.

Pre-ordered. It's cheaper than other AAAs - 59.99. 30 hours seems about right. Remember, the best part of Dark Souls III was (arguably at least) the DLCs. Same with Bloodborne. So there will almost certainly be DLC, based on the glowing reviews from YouTube testers.

I also hope there is a wide build variety. I have experimented so much in Demon Souls.

Here's hoping the build variety will be nice. That was one issue with Bloodborne.

30hr is a nice average, I assume you got it from your play-testers, I hope a sub 3hr for the lowest end be posible though

Now I dunno if you guys consider the game soundtrack a spoiler but its already on youtube. Its quite atmospheric and slow for some reason.

I listened to the one named after the area limgrave, It really reminded me the OST of Secret of evermore by Jeremy Soule with all these sustained notes and the suspense building strings but the tempo was too Slow it really made me feel lazy rather than intrigued to explore.

Really hope this game is as good as i am expecting it to be, and it does as well as it should. Someone needs to show the industry that we don't need unfinished POS titles such as BF2042.

@hardwenzen: from software hasn't disappointed me in years. Can't believe I'm getting another game from them very soon. I'm still obsessed with the beauty of Sekiro

@restatbonfire: Sekiro was my first From game and it's one of my favorite gaming experiences on the PS4, and yes artistically so stunning. Also just got a PS5, and with how Elden Ring looks, the hype is very real.

@nilsdoen: I feel you. That's exactly why despite the game being so good I actually want to play it again (I rarely replay games), I just can't take that kind of toll again lol. Even if the challenge of it lends itself to replay value, I think I'm fine. I'll just appreciate the one amazing experience for what it was. When I finished the game I also felt like this was awesome but yeah that's enough. So no multiple endings for me, even if I like to do everything in certain games where I feel the game is worth investing a lot of time in, like Sekiro. I clocked in at 100 hrs, only games I've had more are Horizon and AC Origins.

@Destructionzz: a bit worried about Elden ring being a huge step back in terms of combat complexity from Sekiro. Also concerned about Elden ring being AAA and meant to cater to much wider audience. Thus becoming an easier experience, but also kind of like a greatest hits of souls games (even besides animations, there seem to be tonnes of direct asset drafts from previous titles, including bloodborne)

I played original Demon souls when it came out. Insanely hard experience. Recently replayed Demon souls Remake and basically failed like 10 times in the entirety of the game. So the from games really have thought you how play their games - or they really just kinda suck when they are easy.

Hopefully, Eldens combat is fun. Hopefully, it's not too easy, and hopefully, the graphical backstep from DS Remake isn't too obvious.

Horizon was also such a surprise for me! the story is amazing.

“Going gold” doesn’t mean anything anymore. CD Projekt Red saw to that.

@stickemup: The incident with CDPR didn't suddenly change what going Gold means. That was the exception, not the norm.

30 hours main story RPG, usually translates to 60-80 hours depending on how many side quests and optional content a player engages with.

That should satisfy most on either side of the "games need to be shorter/longer" conversation.

@sabredj: that can depend. Most elder scrolls games are only like 30ish hours if you just stick to the main storyline

@sabredj: I'd put money on about 100-120 hrs, depending on collectibles, side quests, etc etc. But yeah, it could be 30 for campaign and maybe an extra 10 in extra content, who knows until its released?

@sabredj: this is pretty much the perfect length for a game, these newer games that are 150 hours long are 80% filler garbage for open world

@cyrezeraser: I know it doesn't make me cool, but I'd take that every single time over arenas or sports games or something that I finished in less than a week.

@cyrezeraser: Can't think of many examples of that other than Assassin's creed lol. And even then, you can skip a lot of shit without many issues, don't know about valhalla though since I don't intend to play that one.

@argothm: BotW: a lot of the content is Korok seeds and copy-pasted shrine challenges.

Mario Odyssey: similar issue with Moon abuse just to make the game artificially longer.

Red Dead 2: tons of slow chore-like gameplay to pad out the playtime.

Cyberpunk / Tales of Arise / Xenoblade / Nier / any modern Ubisoft game / any modern MMO: if you open your map in a game and see lots of "!" icons in every area, then it's probably filler.

Some of these games suffer from this much more than others, but the point is that you're an errand boy or girl for some random NPC in all of these games multiple times.

The more optional that filler content is, the better. But the more there is of it, the more you have to go out of your way to avoid that content if you're not interested in it.

If they're proudly claiming that Elden Ring is 30 hours, that means there might not even be any pointless content to avoid, despite being open world.

It's encouraging, because there comes a point where we just want to play a game that is good from start to finish, and it's becoming a rare thing from AAA studios.

@Tiwill44: You aren't wrong, and I agree, it not only varies from game to game, but person to person.

Some of those games you list have filler to me, while others I thought had worthwhile content. It's definitely subjective, and mileage may vary.

@Tiwill44: You can skip all that content you listed without any major issues. The only one I don't know about is tales of arise, which I haven't played.

Modern MMO's are the worst offenders, but that's the nature of the game sadly, its either that or insane level grinding lol.

@argothm: Tales might be the worst offender since it requires you to do the side content in order to be high-level enough to progress in the main story. Actually I ran into that issue with Nier Automata, I think it was on the third playthrough, I was skipping stuff since the game was overstaying its welcome but then the enemies became bullet sponges and I lost interest.
